I have read in this forum that several members consider the Shakespeare Howald Wonderod model 1290 to be their favorite, and among the best from this period. Does that include the P-1290, that was offered a year or two later?

Thanks,
steve

The Wiki located here on the front page of this here website will guide you to the P1290.
Should be 3.5 and the P for Presidential - maybe Professional.
Somewhere once here I read the T was Trout and the B for Bass.
So tough to tell without photos. Can you take some photos for us ?

Maybe it is this one ?

I think it's a definite maybe.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the response. I know about the wiki and have read it. But that wasn't my question.

I have read here that the 1290, manufactured 1947-1959, is well thought of by several members. Is the P1290, manufactured 1960-1961, as well liked, by those same members as the 1290? As we know manufacturers sometimes make a change when reintroducing a model that reduces the desirability from the original. The "P" model was only offered for two years, which is what prompted my question.

Thanks,
steve

I've seen T and B models, but maybe someone knows specifics on P

I've never seen one, but the ratings of the 7'9" version seem the same as a 1290 and Wiki says its a Presidential trim version. I occasionally fish a 1280T 7'9". It has the spring loaded reel seat which I think is the basis for it being heavier in weight than a 1290 - but with the added weight in the butt it seems to balance well. I've never seen a 7'3" 1290 or p1290 version but I'd like to try one out.
