I have one of the early San Fran Stalker's by Winston and the spigot needs replacement. Do people think I should go to Winston or another builder that might treat it with the tender loving care it needs. Assuming there would have to be some rewrapping around the base and I would love it to continue to be to specs. Took it fishing today on our local Spring Creek and had fun nymphing with it picking up several little wild browns. Had not used it in years and forgot what a great taper it is. Just goes to show you this stuff doesn't change all that much. It's the 76 two piece four weight.

If it were me I'd send it to Winston. Remember though, if the spiggot to be replaced is in the butt section it has to come out through the lower end. So the reel seat has to be removed first. The the new spiggot would be installed up through the butt section to the joining area. Then the reel seat reinstalled. I'd send it back to Winston. That's just me.

I'd do the same Bob.
Winston does great job for a very decent price.

Several years ago I had to make the same decision you do regarding a spigot, but on a vintage Winston graphite rod. Sent it to Winston. High quality workmanship, reasonable price and turnaround time. And the peace of mind knowing they have more experience repairing Winstons than anybody else does.

does Winston still make spigot-ferrule rods?
I would ask this question before sending.
Need to be sure they have someone skilled in the shop.

if not,
I would suggest contacting Fred Paddock or Bob Hollowell...
They are two active members that currently make a lot of rods with spigots.

What's wrong with the spigot. Loose in the blank?
