I recently added the above rod to my collection. While probably not an uncommon rod in the US, I have not previously seen one in New Zealand. The rod appears in the 1966 Shakespeare catalogue and my one was built in November 1965. I see that there is a wide range of line weights that this rod is capable of casting and I look forward to getting out on the lawn and finding the sweet one. Being that the Wonderods are well known to many of this Forum's members, I am interested in comments about this model as well as advice to line preferences. The advice gained from the Wiki pages and the scanned Shakespeare catalogues has been very helpful. I have the history of who owned the rod and how it came to be in New Zealand which to me, is what makes it so special. It cost me NZ$26.00. Cheers

It's the two piece 8'6" 4.4 ounce rod. In pretty good condition. Posting images is beyond my capabilities. White glass, red bindings with black spiral trim. Cheers

If it was mine I would play with a 7 or 8wt.

Wonderods are unique in taper IMHO, some of them are sweet, some are just weird. Good luck, let us know.

Many thanks majicwrench. I reckon this model is one of the sweet ones. I found an old Cortland WF7F and it cast this nicely but am looking forward to trying an older WF8F. I tried a Scientific Anglers Frequency Boost WF6F (which is around a 6.5) and it was definitely a bit on the light side. A slower casting style and a careful application of power produced very pleasing results. Cheers

The "standard taper" is my favorite Wonderod taper---the rod is rated for a 7 wt.----I would use a Dt. 7 wt. or a WF 6 wt..
Good luck

I like Cortland 444 Peach for my Wonderods. I'd try a 7. Not sure why, but to me 444 seems to be in tune with every Wonderod I have for whatever reason.
