This is the Orvis FullFlex Pack Fly Rod complete set. Came with an Orvis Madison 6/7 (early version with unique drag adjuster) and an Orvis WF7F line. Circa 1971, $84.50 per attached ad. This is the only set of which this rod was offered. It also came with reel box and all papers (including the tissue), line box and stickers, backing, Orvis line cleaner and some Courtland flies, all period correct and unused. There is not a mark on any of it.

I love finding nice vintage equipment in unused condition and it always makes me wonder how it went 50 years and never left the closet. Well, this time I don't have to wonder. The original owner told me he used to pack the Sierras in the late sixties and early seventies and his friend talked him into fly fishing. He said he lined up the reel and just never tried it out.

The reel balances about 7/8 the way up the cork and the set casts wonderfully. I would say medium soft action (Phillipson) and pretty effortless 60' casts. I'll have to try a 6w.

Anyway, a complete and unused set like this doesn't come everyday, thought I'd share...felt like going back in time...figured it would be appreciated here.

Fantastic!!

I always lusted for those combos in the Orvis catalogs.

You might want to send along some photos to Orvis. They are always interested in "living" history of their company

What a wonderful set in pristine condition. Takes me to back to wonderful memories of my own ramblings in the Sierras in a simpler time

Fantastic find. A deal like that just doesn't come along every day (or week, month, year, or decade for that matter).

that's almost too good to fish.. a wonderful find.. thank you for the photos.

I got an unused outfit from a friend, but it was an 8wt graphite Cabelas outfit, not quite the same ;-)
Gave it to my son for bass and pike in the Boundary Waters, so it has a good home now. He caught some 20" smallmouth on it earlier this summer..

Thanks all...I'm enjoying the set on display...

Ron and Larry, good points...not only is this type of find far and few between, they don't just fall in your lap...

Bamboozle, didn't think of that, I'll contact Orvis to see if they may be interested in some "living" history.

Doug, having the same thoughts...it's only a virgin once...awfully tempting though...
