I opened a new rod that has never had a reel mounted that is most likly pre 1961 my birth year. the only identifiers on this rod is a sticker. Golden Gate quality fishing tackle with a number 17 stamped on it. It measures out at 8.5 feet. Any ideas?

What type of line would one use and what reels might I be thinking about? How much fish might this handle? I'd appreciate any and all info anyone might have.

Thanks and Happy fishing!

Ron, post some pictures of that rod, reel seat, ferrules, winding checks and thread work can help identify some rods.

I added the image tag to your photos to remove the need to click the links.

Looks like a nice rod. I don't recognize it, but there have been a few other GG rods come up, which could give some leads. Whrlpool had some interesting trademark data in this thread

Looks to me very much like a Fenwick FF blank.

A forum search suggests this might be manufactured by Wright & McGill Rod-Co for the Golden Gate Casting Club in San Francisco.
