I picked up the Diamondglass 8' 4wt today. I actually lawn cast it with a 406 wf4. Seems to have a nice medium fast action. Anyone still have one of the Diamondglass rods? What are your thoughts on lines for this rod?

I have one I built off a blank years back, my opinion is close to yours, although I would say Medium is how I would describe it with the same line as you are using. It is a sweet taper, but then again all the VT rolled Diamondglass were winners in my book. The only one that I never owned or cast was the 805.

Thanks for the info WJude. How would I find out if I have VT rolled blank?

I have the same rod, it’s the one that brought me into glass. It’s a super rod for the Little Red, smooth casting and a real blast to fight fish on.

The black rods are Vermont made, the later blue rods are offshore as are the current Diamondback Meeker series. The Meeker 804 is a nice rod, but not as good as the original. I don’t have any experience with the blue ones.

Thanks Tim! Looks like I got one of the originals. Its also good to hear that it has a strong enough butt section to handle those big fish on the Little Red. I used to fish there a lot when I was in college.

I like this rod a lot. Have two and half, lost the tip half of one to a large rainbow when a knot in the fly line clattered up and stuck near the tip top and the fish pulled the top section off the rod. Played the fish with half a rod for a while but the fish broke the 3X tippet, you known what happened next. Have used a 406 DT4 to good effect. Usually fish #12 to #16 beadheads, #8-#10 streamers and dries with it. Handles the wind pretty well and larger trout too.

Besides what Arknymph said, you can tell from your label on the tube and rod, they will all look like the one you have, the style of the script and rod tube sticker.
