I re-aquired a Fenwick FF755. I don't know why I sold the last one, but one arrived in the mail today and it's as good as I remember.

There are rods I would like, but none left that I am really searching for (and if I was, I wouldn't post it here).

A Fisher blank- built rod, they all sell over my budget. I will find one at some point.

Scott early 1973 7 1/2’, 5 weight, Pow-R-Ply Rod, with Harry Wilson’s Flex Sleeves inserted in the blank’s cavity. Had one while a student in Bozeman, where I sold the Rod, I imagine to cover living expenses.

If by some magic someone wants to part with their Steffen 7/8 you should jump on it. Otherwise I bet that 7wt parabolic McFarland would be pretty sweet for this.

McFarland semi-para 725-3. Found 3 (well maybe only 2?) one sold years ago and the other two Gents are not selling.
Still holding out hope.

For the "strong 7wt" category I have found my unicorn, a Fenwick FF80 H serial number. Maybe I'm in a different universe but all of the past comments on this site refer to how slow the action is and can't throw a line very far have not matched my experience at all...far from it in fact. I've like several lines on it from a DT7 up to an SA Steelhead taper 8wt. With the 8wt Steelhead taper 70' casts are not a big deal and the tip tracks better than any glass rod I've ever tried. And spey casting? Best spey casting glass rod that I've tried by a long shot. The tip is significantly stronger than an FF807 causing it to flex deeper into the rod but with the steep taper the butt of the rod never gets "soggy". In my hand the casting load is perfectly blended through the full rod, no part overpowering the other. Great feel when casting long or short. Strong enough for big steelhead yet still bends pretty nicely with 14" trout, cheap and easy to find...what's not to like. Now, my unicorn rod is essentially a 5wt FF80! I recently purchased an FF80-3 that will get an thorough interview this summer. The quest never ends

My FF80 is like that Tom, it seems to cast itself most days, my favorite Fenwick, makes me think they used the same model number on more than one taper design.

I'm looking for any JC Higgins brown rods, smaller sizes, any condition. Have one I'm refinishing and redone with new guides, guide placement, and finish. They work really well for me. Plus they look great redone.

I’m looking for Berkley Parametric and Specialists 5# and under. It’s my quirky passion.

I'm not really looking for any vintage stuff, although a Fisher 8' 6/7 sounds pretty great (already have the 8'6" 6/7). Perhaps another Steffen 8' 5/6 needs to get in my quiver at some point before Mark hangs it up. Actually, an 8' or 8'3" Steffen 7/8 would be pretty sweet....of course he doesn't make them anymore. I wish I would have been into tiger muskies back when he was still making a 10/11.

I would love to find a copy of a rod my father gave me in 1964, I believe. It was a 9' Garcia Conolon Companion 5 star rod. The model number was either 2406 or 2406T, I'm not sure. It was painted gold, with yellow or gold or maybe cream under wraps and burgundy or maroon over wraps. It was a heavy powered bass rod for throwing large flies ( I fished 1/0 and 2/0 Peck's Special Popping Minnows). I've seen a few 2405 8 1/2' rods but not a 2406 as described above.

Canerod1, the FF84 is almost identical to the FF855 and easier to come by, but FF855's are around.

Started rebuilding my shorter rod arsenal recently:

Recently picked up:
Fenwick 605.

Phillipson 6' (Fly Fox or Similar)

St Croix 7090 6'8"

Fenwick 5'3"

6'3" Para/Metric

Two 7' Para/Metrics

Couple Short Rods I'd like to find:

6' Silaflex

6 1/2' Philipson Fly Fox

Any Short Berkley Specialist

Only problem is I only want excellent condition and cheap, so probably won't be buying anything soon.

Also, what is considered short? Is 7' getting out of the short range?

As to what constitutes short, I don't consider my 7’ rods to be in any special category of “short.” But that reflects my fishing; GA trout freestones are usually tight and 7’ is a reliably useful length, with 7’6” when I know the water gets a little more open, but 6’6” can have pretty general application too (to exercise an 8’ rod in trout conditions in GA, I have to pick my freestone destinations carefully or go tail water). My “short” rods (i.e. most brookie streams and non-speck streams that imitate those conditions) are under 6’6”, although the 64p can sneak into the “general” category.

Or maybe it’s the other way around; “short” is 6’ or less, and the 64p can get pressed into the shorter category.

A yard sale find, or wherever people find rods for cheap. I never do. So in my dreams I find a Golden Eagle 7 footer like I was so foolish to sell way back when. Other than that, I really don't need any more rods (yes, I know that sounds sick).
