Post subject: What are you still looking for?

Someone to knock some sense into me. Oh wait...my wife finally did. So, not looking for anything anymore. Hah!

True confessions. Actually, I was kind of jones'ing to check out the 2pc version of a 7' 3wt Lamiglas honey yellow rod, and came across a couple of new FL 843 blanks. These are getting hard to come by, and Lamiglas isn't making them anymore. Thanks to a thoughtful forum member, I have a build in the works, and am anticipating that this will be a very sweet and fun rod to fish in the right conditions.

I do have 2 ********* rods in the works with Dusty.

After that...I'm done. Really.

When the ECHO glass 2HRs were on offer I got a trout spey and meant to get one of their full size spey rods too. Dawdled too long, and even missed the great close out sale when they dropped the glass long rods. My recent persistent effort to find a used one 'came a cropper' as folks seem to be holding onto theirs. ( I did settle on a used ECHO glass 7wt switch rod but...)

So, being suddenly flush with some play money from a sale of custom Ruger #1 rifles, I talked Shane at Graywolf intro building a custom glass spey rod for me.

One just popped up actually-first one I’ve seen-but naturally I don’t have the spare cash at the moment.

McFarland 7’7” 7wt is an amazing rod. It’s my go to 7wt for streamers for smallies and pike. The Haldin 8’ 7wt is my other 7wt rod that I used in 2020-2021. I’ve recently went to the McFarland GTX blanks and they are my favorites. I don’t have a GTX in 7wt but I do have the 8’6” 6wt and 8wt and also have the GTX in 7’10” 8wt and 10wt these rods have every situation I can think of for bass and pike covered.

Serenity Now. (one for the Seinfeld fans).
Rod-wise - the perfect mountain brookie rod.

I am looking for a new fiberglass rod, seeing so few in my hand so far.

Went into a real flyshop up in Phoenix yesterday and handled a few Echo glass rods they finally had in stock. One shop worker is into fiberglass for carp and bass and was quite helpful. I picked up a 2 wt which was a bridge too far for me, but the 7&1/2' 4wts and 8' 5 wts were more my style and I will return for some casting in a nearby park..

I expected to be impressed with the Echo rods and was not disappointed...but need to cast them before taking the plunge

I just can't make myself buy a fly rod I have not at least picked up, but maybe can cross that bridge some day. New rods are sweet, for sure.

On the vintage level, I would love to find a 7-8' Phillipson and/or a Steffen Bros glass from here in AZ.....my best being a 7'9" Silaflex 4 pc-er

I would love to find a copy of a rod my father gave me in 1964, I believe. It was a 9' Garcia Conolon Companion 5 star rod. The model number was either 2406 or 2406T, I'm not sure. It was painted gold, with yellow or gold or maybe cream under wraps and burgundy or maroon over wraps. It was a heavy powered bass rod for throwing large flies ( I fished 1/0 and 2/0 Peck's Special Popping Minnows). I've seen a few 2405 8 1/2' rods but not a 2406 as described above.

I have the 2405T and its probably earlier than the rod you describe, its painted gold but its wrapped in gold and maroon, has a NiAg ferrule, agate stripping guide, McGill Reeder reel seat, alphabetic line ratings (C-GBG-GBF "Dry Fly") and no stars or "companion" designation, I agree, these are very cool rods, Todd

Do you ever wonder how many new eBay searches are started after we say what we're looking for here?

Not sure, Barry, but that is why you don't broadcast what you are looking for, and only tell others if confident they aren't out to find it first.

Haha! I'm not even looking, but I do notice. I think it depends on the degree of dollar interest in the collecting. The more you want a bargain and the potential for a higher resale years later, the lower the "looking" profile. Other times, as often right here, the looking is for nice stuff and common interest so sharing a "want" is fun. Personally, I like to give a tip to someone who might want something that I noticed.

If you notice, a pretty standard BB selling tactic, when we discuss our favorites on the forums, new classified listings of just that happen to pop up.

Well sure, this is kind of the center of the universe for glass fly rods .I had no idea i was glass geek until i signed up here.I think your going to see the auction site prices rise as the new rules take effect.Gonna be hard to find that random seller that just wants get rid of a few things. The beauty of FFR classified is the WIKI and the search feature where a person can see a listed item and then find opinions from actual fly fishers all in one place. Most google searches for a vintage glass fly rod lead you right here as it did me.I do absolutely 0 social media so this board and a couple of the other online archives is all i use.

I find myself intrigued with the 1245 / 922 Shakespeare Wondered Panfish specials, and my eyes are constantly drawn in by the looks of the Phillipson Royals as well.

I would look twice at a Fenwick FF855. Mostly looking to make room in the rod closet during off-season.
