This is my first post, been reading up to this point. Just found out I may have a wonderwand. Been researching the the rod label, having difficulty determining what exactly it is. It says"wonderwand" and "howald," but no #1295. It is 7'3" and it is yellow.
Can anyone tell me what line size it is, what it's worth, where can I get another one?

It always pays to first check the Wiki at the top right of the index page. The 1295 series was described as a Presentation rod. It was produced from 1953 to 1956. It was a 2 piece rod, recommended for Double Taper 4 floating line, Double Taper 5 sinking line, and weight forward 6 floating line.

It originally came in a mahogany box and was a presentation rod, and was called the Wonder-Wand in the catalog, but I’ve never seen one marked “Wonderwand” on the rod itself. Let’s see some pictures. Introduced in ‘53.
The rod is 7’3” and was designed for a HEH or HDH (4 or 5 weight), but I like it with a #4.
The 1295 and serial number should be stamped on the reel seat butt cap.
Good luck finding another! They are extremely scarce and were $150 back in ‘53, that’s $1400 in today’s dollars. They have extremely fine tips and I doubt many survived. Look at my old posts about these from a decade ago.
Oh, and by the way...welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders!

Make sure both pieces are the same length and that it’s not a 7’9” shortened by 1 guide. 7’9” is a very common Shakespeare size and ones with a repaired ( & thus short ) tip are sometimes described as 7’3” on eBay.

As stated by The Purist, the 1295 was in a mahogany presentation case. The one I once owned, weighed in at 2.4 ounces and had a 3/64th tip top size. All cork with an aluminum slide band and a yellow blank. The date code was 1953. Machined aluminum ferrules. I only seen one other than the one I had, so they are rare. The 1295 I had, the wraps were dried and not serviceable. I rewrapped the rod with all the original guides. The rod was rated as a DT5, but a 4 or 5 worked well.

Don’t you just hate it when they tease us like this?
Since we don’t have photos, here’s my unsolicited assessment FWIW.
The decal is probably only partial, and is the typical Wonderod decal, and does not say Wonderwand.
But that is consistent with the 1295, and doesn’t rule out the possibility that it is.
Since there is no model or date code stamped on the seat would suggest that the seat was replaced.
Or, it is a standard 1240 Wonderod in Goldenrod color with a short tip.
Fred is right, they are scarce. His report makes seven of these rods that I’m aware of. I’m sure there are more, but not many.

Jeff will be back - if my guess is correct. Jeff Hatton, bamboo rod maker, historian, owner of the GTRS, Gnome's Traveling Rod Show.
A busy man I would guess, we'll see.
