Mr. narcodog- Please let us know what you think of the rod. I built one a lot of years ago and like it fine, but have never compared it to any other of the similar Fenwick models.

This is the only Fenwick of this type, I usually fish cane so I won't be able to do a comparison. Sorry.

Thank you.

I bought a FF755 (K serial number) about 25 years ago. It is the rod I usually reach for when heading to the trout stream. I fish mostly dries with mine and prefer it with a DT5. Nice score!

I also fish drys and I was told it was a very good taper. I normally fish cane but in the last couple of years I have been drawn back fiberglass.

FF755 taper is on the quicker side of glass, but it has a fine tip and is capable of both delicate presentation and delivering a punch when the need calls for it.

I came into an FF755 a few years ago. K129745. A work associate had a great day at an auction. Among other items in a box of fly fishing gear was this rod, a Fenwick HMG 8 1/2 6 WT and an Orvis All Rounder 8' 7WT 4piece. He paid $35 for all. We lawn cast all three. All great rods. I really liked the Orvis in it's 4 pc set up. I knew it could do what my FF806 does and liked the 4pcs. Knowing he paid $35 for everything I offered $30 for the FF755. I knew the math going on in his head. He took it.
The thing is and here is where it gets interesting the two graphites showed very little use. Both in close to mint condition. They were lined up and fished a bit but it was easy to tell the original owner went back and stuck with his FF755. I own an FF75. I've said this before yet it bears repeating. If The FF75 hadn't checked so many boxes for stream fishermen, the FF755 would have been just as iconic. No way were so many satisfied FF75 owners going to ditch a great rod for an FF755. Congrats of your acquisition.

that's an astounding score.
There's a local auction house, that's kind of a weekly wholesaler for state-wide antique purveyors. Gene Vogt, the owner, turned estate buy-up into a worldwide boondoggle decades ago, and many friends have furnished their houses at his weekly auctions.

But any Orvis fishing tackle (and bamboo) that lands there bids over the top with silly-high prices.

Toonah, I'll give you $40 for the FF755 ;)

The other two rods are also iconic (especially if it was an early HMG) I suspect the FF755 got more use because the original owner had it longer and it's a better PA trout rod. The other two are for bigger water and warm water.

Narcodog, what is the listed weight on the rod? Fenwick placed three different weights on these through the production years...2 1/2 oz, 3 oz and 3 1/8 oz. I have an L (downlocker) and and an M (slide bands), both listed at 3 1/8 oz...actual weights are very close to that.

I agree with east branch kids description of these rods...

I bid $15 on the L with the Diawa reel (pictured) at a local auction (pick up only). Got a notification that I won...paid through PayPal and picked it up. It was in good condition...placed the reel on the big site and sold it for $25 (free shipping)...about 30 days later I noticed the local auction credited me the $15 back...called them to let them know and they said they'd take care of it...another 30 days and nothing...called them again, and still nothing...gave up....so, in the end they paid me a few bucks to take the FF755 off their hands...they are nice rods...

This raises the question of a topic I've never seen on here:
Should your fly line cost more than your rod?
