OT but, fly shops in a city are great, until you want to test cast or even wiggle a rod.
The Angler's Roost on 44th Street was in a small office space on the 2nd floor and it was tiny, MAYBE 20' X 20'.
When Orvis opened their first NYC store back in the 1980's (not at the present location), the fly fishing part of the store was on the 2nd floor on a mezzanine with an 8 foot ceiling so you had be careful removing a rod from the almost horizontal rod rack. If you wanted to waggle that rod, you had to walk over to the railing, hold it out over the main floor below and wiggle it there.
I often wonder if any tip sections went flying off in the distance...
