Found this one five miles from my house last week...a nearly flawless "A" series...rated for DT6F...very pretty rod...didn't give much for it...thought I'd share...don't see a lot of first year Feralite rods...

Very nice looking rod. It's still very bright. It must not have seen much Daylight (UV).

That really is a real classic. One of the most popular 2-digit Fenwicks in it's earliest incarnation.
I love the hand written labeling. I also am curious if it really is a 6wt. If so, that would be a blast to fish.

great find. I'm curios if the early series casts any differently than the later series

Always wondered the same myself. It’s marked lighter on the blank, and rated for a lighter line. Is it a true 6?

Thanks for all the replies guys...with the love it's getting here, I'm feeling really good about the $40 purchase...I'll try to get a 6 and 7 on it this weekend to see which chucks better...from the wiggle, feels like a six will do just fine to me...I don't have a scale to validate the 3 5/8 oz...though I may be able to borrow one...I'll report back...

The broad weave glass is not as translucent as the next generation of lay up, but when they are still so light in color, like this one, they sure are pretty...love the silver mylar too...

And great point about being the first version of what became a two digit Fenwick staple...feeling pretty lucky now...

Thanks for the photos of a very nice A series rod - great to see here! The early Fenwick grips are way better than the later grips, imho.

Beautiful rod. I love the pumpkin colored fenwicks with the mylar and big weave. I like my pumpkin 79 better than the brown one since the grip is thinner. Very slightly heavier feeling but seems to be more pleasing to cast but that may be totally psychological.
