Scott glass, has a special place in my mind. My first glass rod, was a F652/3 black blank, and it started my obsession with Scott and glass rods. I have owned every black F series rod in the lineup and that F652/3 was special. I have owned the entire F2 lineup, as well and I really liked the F2 602/3, the most.

The best 7ft 3wt rod of any material, that I have ever fished and own, is the brown Scott F703/2, from the 90's. The brown F703/2, is pure magic! The taper is strong, and accurate, with amazing feel.

Scott F79 yellow glass built by Harry among the smoothest fly rods I have ever cast.

I have had a number of the classic ones come through my hands, whether they were brown or yellow, not much difference. The F79 in a 2pc and the F70 in 2,3, or 5 piece are exceptional. I still have and fish an early yellow F79 and an early brown F70/3. I like them both best as 4 wts. I would give special mention to the 7.5' 4/5 wt, 8' 6 wt, and the 8' 7wt Bass classic Scotts as very nice rods too. I just kept other models in those configurations instead.

Can you guys tell me the difference between the 704/5 which I am assuming that is early yellow glass and my 704 anniversary special if they are similar in casting,any info would be helpfull .........thanks aurelio

The F704/5 25th anniversary maroon glass is S glass, while the yellow/brown SF F70/5 is E glass. I've not cast the 25th anniversary edition, but maybe I can bring my yellow F70/5 down to Aurelio's next year and we can have some casting (and fishing) fun!

Aurelio, as far as I know all the "modern" Scotts are S glass.

I'm also a fan of Scott, though I have acquired more of their graphite rods than glass. However, I have managed to get my hands on a brown glass 703 and an F2 602 and really enjoy both rods. I briefly had a 764 black glass and sold it after fishing it for a summer.

Wes333, I agree with your assessment. The 90s 703 is great! I'm glad I found it and will be holding onto it for a long long time.

I've always liked Scotts and have fished quite a few over the years, glass and graphite. I think my favorite fiberglass Scott is the San Francisco built F70. I bought this one new in the early 80's.

I think L. Kenney is a great master..... and probably the most collectible current builder of all. His light trout rods are very special - they seem unabashedly designed to explore the limits of "glassiness". The Scotts I am familiar with do what they are supposed to do extremely well without drawing as much attention to themselves, without demanding the same level of engagement. There's genius there too but it's just not quite out in the open.

The two that I am familiar with in the same configuration are the 794s. The Scott is a 4 piece and 7'10" so one inch longer. The two rods are very different in feel and power - the Scott being more powerful,. They are both progressive deep flexing rods with fine tips but they couldn't feel more different.

The only Scott I have is the black F703/3, and while it's a fun little rod I have to agree with those who say it is really a 4 wt--it was sold as a 3 wt, but loads much better at short distances with the heavier line.

Line Guard the SA mastery trout that came out a few years ago and still made today is a long belly and turns the F703 into a true 3wt. Just amazing........Aurelio
