The 1975/1976 Heddon catalogs. This was a combined edition. Heddon introduces an eight-model "Mark Wet/Dry" series of rods. A fly version of the "Trail Blazer" makes its first appearance. Finally, Heddon unveils it's finest rod ever, the HAND-MADE "Rod Of Rods". Fly rods from the "Golden Mark", "Mark II" and "Lucky 13" series have all been discontinued.

The 1977 Heddon catalog. Images of the STARCAST and BROWN PAL fly rods are not shown in the catalog.

Heddon's 1978 catalog. Only the "Starcast", "Brown Pal", "Trail Blazer" and "Green Pal" remain from the old lineup, with most completely re-designed. Heddon introduces the "Legacy", "Slickstick" and "Galaxy" series of rods, but it's too little, too late for Heddon fiberglass.

The 1979 Heddon catalog. Rods are becoming just a footnote in the back of the catalog, with glass fly rods down to only two models (just where they started in 1952). These two listings for the "Legacy" and "Slickstick" are identical to those in the 1978 catalog.

The 1980 Heddon catalog. Heddon actually adds a new economy fly rod model to their "Smokestick" series, raising the number of glass fly rod models available to three. The "Legacy" and "Slickstick" listings are identical to 1979.

The 1981-1983 Heddon catalogs. IDENTICAL to the 1980 catalog, as Heddon would go with just the three remaining models until the end of production. By 1984, all rods were gone from catalogs, ending 77 years of rod making. By 1985, James Heddon's Sons would be gone, too, closing the Dowagiac factory forever.

I hope these catalog listings help someone ID or date their Heddon fiberglass fly rod. Having a model list is one thing, but it's always nice to have a visual reference.
*Note*, I also have every listing for Heddon glass casting, spinning, spin-casting and salt water rods. Feel free to contact me if you need info on any of these, and I'll do my best to help.

Thank you for putting up this reference; it's certainly useful to collectors and a good look at the past for anyone with affection for the old glass rods.

Hi. I'm a new member so I hope this post works. Just wanted to say thanks for posting those catalogs. I have a couple of Heddon fly rods and a few spinning and baitcasters too. This is a big help.

Thanks. I'm still learning how to post pictures. I am trying to use the postimage.org site and am new to it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post this!

It is fascinating to see how many rods were once available from only one maker.

That rod might very well have come in a carded "combo" kit and wasn't offered or cataloged separately. I'll take a closer look, though.

Your No.728 shows up in the 1973 catalog in the Heddon Pal "Black/Silver Series". It was only made for one or two years. Probably not too many around. I've never seen one.

Thank you so much for putting these pages up online. I learned the vintage of my Mark IV with the funky, jet cowling reel seat and my Pal.

Thanks for posting these catalogs! A great service for glass rod anglers. I learned when my (missing the decal) glass mid-'50s Heddon 7 1/2-footer was sold. It's a sweet rod and it helps to know more about it. Thanks again.

All of the images posted through Postimage have disappeared from all the websites, including the 100's of photos that were used here for the Heddon & Shakespeare Catalog threads. Very sad. Hopefully, they will be restored.

Admin - Please unlock and delete this thread. Without photos, it's just taking up space. The same for the Shakespeare Catalog thread. The Classic Bamboo Fly Rod forum was able to restore all photos in the catalog threads there. Because no such effort is being made here, save the bandwidth for someone else and get rid of these useless threads.

I considered redoing this thread and adding the images again and found I'm not even able to "EDIT" or "DELETE" any of these posts. Admins? Suggestions?

It would be a huge undertaking I am sure, but a tremendous contribution. I have looked for these files several times, until I finally just gave up on them.

I hope someone can find a way to get the documents scanned and posted in a secure way so they dont get lost again. From what I know -which admittedly ain't all that much - they have historical significance that oughta be preserved. But the burden should not be entirely on wrong88.

STILL blocked from EDITING. May as well delete this thread, it's worthless (that's if the admin knows how to do it). Even if I wanted to re-do it, it won't let me add photos. I think this forum needs a little tech support. Someone who knows their stuff.

Well not to rub anybody the wrong way, but I'll just say not only do I know how to do it, I could do it, and in less time than it takes to explain why I didn't.

I feel the tech services on this forum are pretty darn good, and I'm not the tech guy either. I can tell you that any member here gets better tech services than any of us pay for.

I chose to leave them, just like I left many of my own pics with old PB links, because: (1) most people understand that we are a hobby/common interest site, not the Library of Congress. We do our best, as have others in the past, and they didn't have the Federal benefits and pension plan either, or a desk and a staff of flunkies to do anything asked.

(2) the digital environment changes constantly. I'd be the first to say that some tech staffs could keep up better. But even they replace big glitches with smaller ones sometimes, and restoring something from two years ago can become a committee and consultant project that concludes: "the system can't do that," which means they have no idea how to operate it or they don't want to bother. Of course they have already collected the paycheck that us hobbyists don't get.

We do our best. There is a lot of great stuff here. Some gets lost in the digital era. But I left those because I thought they were valuable contributions. We did not mishandle them, and as we saw with Photobucket, you never know how they might get dug up again. It isn't digging I am going to do, knowing that someone else will contribute something similar sooner or later.

Not all contributions stay in the main lobby of the museum anyhow, but you never know if they might be dusted off and displayed again. Throwing them away after sending the donor a thank you note is not good practice.

this forum doesn't have a database for images - posting images counts on us having our own photoserver and knowing how to use it
you get past that part, and the php-board syntax works fine for posting images.

As far as Steve's inadequacy, damn, he has to read the whole board every day.
There's something to be said for the owner of the forum not providing access daily to an administrator.
