Here's my current arsenal - this fascination started roughly a year ago, with a few exceptions on the reels. I buy with budget in mind, and I've found some great deals!
Image
My favorite rods out of this collection are the Cortland FR2000 7', the Heddon Black Beauty 7 1/2' Bass taper, and the Fenwick FF756. Favorite reels would be the small J.W. Young Pridex, the Red agate J.W. Young (paid $75 for that) and the old Medalist 1494 (birdcage spool).

I have an affinity for the smaller, lighter glass rods because I always think of fishing them on the small trout streams in Wisconsin that I grew up on. For now, I'm in Oregon and it's a different game out here - I need to add some heavier rods to my collection - suggestions for good and affordable Salmon/Steelhead rods are welcome! I just added a pretty nice Fenwick FF9010 last week ($40 at flea market) - it cleaned up nicely!

Oh, and if anyone has a 1492 ringer they are interested in trading for that little 1392 in my collection, PM me!

I went to a local fly fishing show last Saturday with gearboy and met up with good friend, CarlZ. I looked at a few interesting rods but the excitement just wasn't there. It's been a fun journey but I think I might be done. Carl, on the other hand, still has the fire and came away with three rods! So after a 14 year fiberglass "buying and trying" spree since joining the FFR, here is what I have left, not including bamboo and graphite:

Black = sold, red = still have

Ed Shenk 5'6" #4 two-piece (Impossible to cast this rod. I think it was one of Ed's experiment that didn't work.)
Browning Silaflex 322960 (Why were all of the grips so FAT?)
Fenwick FF605 (As much as I wanted it to be a four it was really a five as marked.)
Leonard LEF66 6'6" #4 (Last know to be living in New Mexico at Aurelio's)
Kettle Creek Riffle 6'3" #4
Russ Peak 6'6" #3/4 (Bought for $300 and sold for $1600. That would not happen today.)
Dave Lewis 6'6" #4 (Dave's wife did the most beautiful writing on his rods.)
Winston Stalker 6'6" #3 (My good friend, Matt Leiderman is the current caretaker.)
Phillipson Royal 6'6" #6 (Never could find a reason to use this short six-weight.)
Dwight Lyons 6'8" #4
Vince Cummings Ultimate Ltd. 6'8" #3/4
Axisco Airrite Stream 7' #3 (sold to Corlay and bought back)
Berkley Stream Specialist 7' #5 (The first rod I sold on eBay. Bought by a FFR member before I knew about the FFR.)
Scott F70 (For sentimental reasons will be the last rod standing)
Scott F70/5 (one of Harry Wilson's basement rods found in a fly shop in Montana.) http://thefiberglassmanifesto.blogspot. ... grail.html
Scott F704
Kabuto 7033
Studio Thin Line 7' #3/4 (Koichi Ishizaka is now building beautiful ... guitars!)
Ijuin Imogi 7' #3 (A fun rod to cast)
Scientific Anglers System 4 7'2" #4 (More like a six-weight to me)
McFarland 7'2" #5
C. Barclay 7'2" #4
Wojnicki 217P4 7'2" #4 (The most expensive glass rod I've ever bought - temporary insanity)
Bill Carey Custom Lamiglass 7'4" #5
Winston Retro 7'6" #4 (A really nice rod IMO despite bad press)
NCA "The Sons" 7'6" #3/4 (Very much a Leonard tribute rod in glass)
Hardy Perfection 7'6" #4 (One of the smoothest rods I have ever cast - deliciously slow.)
Kabuto 7'6" #4 (I love this rod! Kab must go to another planet to source his cork rings.)
Vince Cummings Superlite III 7'6" #4 (The sweet spot)
Phillipson registered Epoxite 7'6" #5 (Why are the bags always short?!)
Heddon Pro Pal 7'6" #5 (Beautiful cosmetics)
Fenwick FF75
Fenwick FF756/4
T&T Heirloom 7'6" #4 (2)
Leiderman/T&T Kaneglass tribute on Heirloom 7'6" #4 (Fly rod building as an art form. Received Tom Dorsey's blessing.)
W&M Trailmaster 7'6" (Yikes, what was I thinking?)
Barclay Deluxe 7'8" #4 (Chris is not kidding when he says "Deluxe".)
Shakespeare Presidential 7'9" (bought for my dad almost 50 years ago at the Navy PX)
Scott F79 (A well-traveled rod - bought new in Montana, sold to a member in Ireland who sold it to a member in Finland!)
Wojnicki 237P4 7'9" #4
Claudio 805 (A very sweet fly rod given to a good friend)
Fenwick FF806
Fenwick FF807
Larry Kenney 813 (A hall of fame rod and one that folks will still covet in twenty years)
Steffen 8' #3/4
Winston Stalker (green) 8' #4 (Probably a mistake on my part - :))
Leiderman/Steffen 8' #5/6 (What can I say? Just one of the best - blank and builder)
Ted Williams 8' #6
Orvis Golden Eagle 8' #7
Abercrombie & Fitch Featherweight 8' #6 (Phillipson)
McFarland 805
Scott F80
Scott F81
Browning Silaflex 322980 (Light as a feather but another fat boy)
Kenney 8'3" #4/5
Wojnicki 8.2 5L
Wojnicki 8.2 WF5 SC (Maybe the only rod I wish I had back.)
Fenwick FF85
Fenwick FF855 (A great taper and a fairly rare Fenwick)
W&M Sweetheart 8' #6
McFarland S-glass 8'8" #4 (One of the great fiberglass fly rod tapers by one of the greatest rod designers)
Shakespeare 1390
Fenwick FF909
Claudio 910B

I'm grateful to you all for posting a list of your rod collections. Now, I don't feel quite as crazy.
I'm looking at what Duff has listed in red.
Well, I sold my Hardy 764 Glass Perfection.
I do have the Barclay 784 with the wood & cork spacer, Kenney 813 a custom built McFarland 884. I agree... they're all great rods. It was Duff who encouraged me to get the 813. As scary as Duff's sold list looks...mine would be scarier. I'm also in my sixties so I may have had a head start on you Duff.

Carlz, would you volunteer for a trial study of a treatment for the sickness and based on vintage interventions that begin with PITP ( patient-initiated-triage-protocol ).

You need bright-colored ribbon cut into 4" strips: Red, yellow, green. These will be tied on the reel seat according to the outcome of your PITP.

Amass your rods in one place. Use the mystical power of threes to sort and ribbonize them as follows:

1. I have this rod because I fish it. Green

2. I fish this rod because I have it. Yellow

3. I have this rod because I have it. Red

If you have a lot left over that do not ribbonize as described, you aren't doing it right. The rods are good, but the ribbon data is faulty.

You do have the bug. So I'm curious, is the 706-4 a typo? I Don't recall hearing of one of those before.

Snuck in two rods* this spring before the baby comes. Now I'm probably done for a while, so the collection stands at:

*Paddock 705 (A sweet, sweet taper - could be the most pleasant rod I've ever cast)
*Cortland Pro Crest 7'6" 5/6 (Stripped and rebuilt by Picketpin - really nice - a capable all around fishing tool)
McFarland yellow-glass 7'6" 4wt
Fisher 8' 5wt
Steffen 8'6" 5/6
FF79
FF75-4
