Newfydog, I'm tossing you the life preserver. I began collecting gear in the 1980's. Granted I sell some off as I add others. I just drew a list of what I have and you have nearly as many rods as I do...and l have too many. If you want to slow the rate of your collection consider saving up for better rods. You may still wind up with a crazy number of rods but they will have more lasting value than the CGRs and Aventiks.
Thanks for the help. It is worse than you think, because I left out the Tenkara and those black Gr... rods.
My nine cheapo rods cost $430 total, just about enough for one fancy rod. At this point I might consider that a good trade, but I've had a great time using all those different rods, seeing what matters (and does not matter), and what I like. I definitely need some throw-away rods for abuse, travel, and the smug pleasure of sometimes dropping a fly in just the right spot with a $20 rod , but I probably have as many of them as I need now. Your advice is sound, and is the natural progression. I'm more inclined to fill out the rest of the Orvis series than the CGR. I have to point out, though, that it just saves space, not money
.
Edit: Then again, maybe you can never have too many cheaper rods. Mr Featherlight is downright inspirational:
