Nice mix of rods, Scott.

The current and probably permanent back bone of my trout based rod collection (including one steelhead rod).

Ijuin 6'6" 3wt
St Croix Imperial 6'8" 4wt
V. C. River Rat 7' 5wt
Phillipson G-MF76L 7'6" 4/5wt
V.C. The Ultimate LTD FL-280L 8' 5wt
Winston 8'3" 5wt
South Bend 323 (bamboo) 8'6" 5wt
Berkley Parametric P40 8'6" 7wt
Fisher glass 8'6" 7/8

All credit goes to this board for learning of these rods. :hat

I love reading these posts of folk's rod collections. I dream about each and every rod. Here's my modest set of fiberglass rods:

6'6" 3 wt McFarland Spruce Creek
7'6" 3 wt Milenkovic Structured Glass Old Empire Build
8'0" 5/6 wt Cortland Leon Chandler Signature
8'6" 7/8 wt Steffen Bros

Excellent rods all.

I haven't added any glass since I last posted on this thread in the summer of '17 but I did add a Winston IM6 graphite. The serial # 84xxx indicates that it's a Winston rolled blank so I believe it is the same blank as the rods marked WT. It's a 8'6 6 wt. 3 pc and I've really enjoyed fishing it. My last trip, for the first time in a decade, I packed only graphite, the Winston and an 8'6 4/5 42 million modulus Steffen. It was nice. Both rods reminded me of what is good about graphite and my surgically repaired shoulder appreciated the light weight. But I missed my glass rods and this next week I'm packing a 7'6 5 wt. Kabuto and a Fisher 8' 6/7. It's nice to have a choice.

Alright, I'll bite, but I'm going in tube height order, shortest to tallest, a la how they're organized against my wall:

Scott FS 653
Scott FS 724
TMR 866 Glass built by West Jude
Scott Radian 966
Orvis SFG 764
Kabuto 765 built by me
T&T Avantt 905 (Delaware rod)
T&T Avantt 906 (Delaware rod)
Kenney 794
McFarland 805 built by Leiderman
Steffen 804 built by Leiderman
T&T Contact 1083
Payne 98 built by Thramer
Payne 98 built by Raven Fork (For Sale! $150 to your door)
Winston Bamboo (Bracket built) 764 ((This rod is as close to god as you can get))
Winston TMF Loomis Blank
Steffen 805 built by NY Kid
Winston IM6 (house rolled) 865

Also have a Sage FLi 905 and a Proof 1004 built by me, both floating somewhere in my apartment/car.

Dream List:
Scott F black blank (because it looks sick)
Winston Stalker, real deal with tube and all
Winston Bamboo 805, really any Winston Bamboo by the 'boo boys. It's the only line of bamboo that I can consistently cast decently.

I've already posted the details on my Fenwick FF collection.

Here, I'm listing the custom glass rods that I have had either built to my specs (*) or bought second hand (#).

-- 7'6" 3wt 3pc on a seaweed color CTS Crystal blank by Vladan Milenkovic (*)

-- 8' 4wt 4pc on a CTS Crystal golden tea blank "Antiquary Edition" by Vladan Milenkovic (*)

-- 8' 3/4wt 3 pc on a Steffen blank by Shane Gray (*)

-- 8' 5/6wt 2pc on a McFarland black blank by Shane Gray (#)

-- 8'6" 6wt 4pc on a CTS 686 EPIC Fast Glass yellow/gold blank by Shane Gray (#)

Plus, two new project rods under way --

-- 8'6" 7wt 4pc on a Tom Morgan Unity with the Universe blank by Shane Gray (*)

-- 8' 6" 8wt 3pc flats rod on a McFarland blank by Martin Romeo. (*)

That should round out my custom rod 'needs'....who knows where the 'wants will take me.

Relatively still new to fly glass.

I have CGRs in 2wt, 5/6wt and 7/8wt.

I recently picked up a well-maintained Fenwick FF75 (2 piece) that I plan on using as much as possible this season.

Def more on the horizon.

Great collections gents.

Simplicity - that would cover all trout fishing in the USA.

I definitely feel strange sometimes thinking about what to bring when I can remember years of one rod, scrambling to change my leader when the fish started rising, or totally over gunned fishing trickles, and other times completely under gunned, trying desperately to huck meat in swollen rivers. There will be a time when I return to that, I'm sure of it. However, for now I'm single and making some scratch and not doing much else, so I pick up these fleeting sticks of inspiration and learn from them and love them and leave them. Who knows, one day I might get married and sell off more than half of this stuff for a woman that inspires me, that I'll love, and that I'll probably leave, for better or worse.

"So it goes."

I build fiberglass rods mostly for other people... Also, I fish saltwater primarily since I live on the ocean shore. However, I love brown trout, since it is the perfect flyrod fish. Therefore, I am not listing here my big glass rods, nor my other material (e.g. graphite) rods.

This is only my small collection of currently most-used trout glass or hybrid glass/bamboo rods. I mostly trout-fish on spring creek/chalkstream/limestone waters. These are either prototypes, or rods I decided not to continue making, or rods built for specific waters or styles of fishing. They are all very different from each other and some of them have unique properties.

L to R:

6'6" orange S-glass 3/4wt 3pc, quick dry fly
7'3" Paradox Hybrid phenolic glass/bamboo 4wt 2/2, parabolic
7'4" Unstructured Prototype E-glass 3/4wt 3pc, med-fast progressive
7'6" orange S-glass 4/5wt 3pc, quick dry fly and streamer
7'6" Unstructured "Old Empire" E-glass 3wt 4pc, semi-parabolic
8'1" Hybrid phenolic/S-glass 3wt 5pc, dry fly fast parabolic, with unique, regressive butt taper
8'2" (250cm) Unstructured Prototype E-glass 4.5wt 4pc, dry fly progressive

Thank you... My SW rod collection is quite large (salt specific 4wt thru 13wt, glass, graphite, single/double hand) and there is no point of lining up and shooting photos of all of those rods. I use few glass rods in the salt, many more graphites and no salty bamboo. My two blogs contain many salty rod photos... Thanks!

Conquistador Fiberglass Series...these are all prototypes. Only the shorter model was produced in small series.

9' models in red glass (very light, can easily cast them for hours.) The 9wt is more progressive, while 10wt has stiffer tip and flexes little deeper.

Image

8'6" model in green, labeled 8/9wt, due to softer tip. It will throw 8wt lines with razor loops.

Here are few of my graphite builds from the late 2018 (all have landed stripers or albies):

I've added a Barclay Synthesis 68, and I'm getting a Synthesis 66 soon. Like my post two years ago I'm still an ooh shiny guy. I fish mostly small streams so my go-to rods are light line rods, which is why I have an overabundance of them.

Less than a year into fiberglass/vintage fishing; first purchase last August give or take:

Fenwick FF 806-4 M (recently traded away 806 P)
Fenwick FF 79 E and F
Shakespeare Wonderod 1280T, 7'9" (c. 1951-54)
...accompanied by Medalist 1494 Akron, 1494 Chain Link and a 1494.5 DA.

And for what it's worth: possibly interested in acquiring FF 84 (and/or 83 if i ever see one), 786, 805, and possibly other 7 to 8' 5 or 6 wt Wonderods, as well as high quality Medalist Patent Pending Ringer, preferably with box/papers.

After 12 years (can’t believe it!) on this forum, I have pared my fiberglass collection down to the essence of:

4 Phillipsons (7-7.5 ft, in 5&6 wt configurations)
4 Steffens (8-8.5 ft; in 4/5 wt & 5/6 wt configurations)
2 Dwight Lyons (7.5’ 4wt & 8’ 5wt) - both incredibly sweet & smooth
1 Lee Wulff 2070 6’ 5wt 1 piece (Old Yankee Rodsmiths) - my gateway rod. ;-)
1 custom 7’3” 5/6wt 3-pc built on an old stock Scott blank (feels like a Steffen)

3 graphite:
7, 8, & 9wt (Sage & TFO) for salt

2 bamboo:
Heddon & Granger in 8’ 4/5 wt configurations

I'm new to glass, other than the rod I had growing up that my dad built (FL-102). It was the only flyrod I had from the 70s up to the 90s when I got into graphite and more into flyfishing, since I did more spin fishing then. I get it out 1-2 times a year and last year found this forum. I like how the fish feel on glass vs graphite and I went and purchased a couple of 5 weights from forum members. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the posts and using the search function on the site. I've also reached out to contact members with questions and for advice. Everyone has been great in responding to any questions I have and offered terrific input and advice. What a great forum/site. :)
