My wife has been very supportive of my fly fishing and rod building and rod collection...I think! Every once in awhile she will comment on a rod case or rod as being one she has never seen before or where has that been?. This happened this past weekend as I prepared to head out for some practice at "The Ponds". This led to me making a list of rods I have, it is as follows;
GLASS
7'6" 5wt 2pc Winston SF
8'6" 5wt 2pc Winston SF
8'6" 7wt 2pc Winston SF(2)
9' 8wt 2pc Winston SF
9' 9wt 2pc Winston SF/Montana
9' 10wt 2pc Winston SF
7'9" 4/5wt Kenney
8'3" 5wt Kenney , home build
8'10" 7wt 2pc prototype Kenney blank
8.5' 6wt yellow Fenwick, home build
8.5' 9wt yellow Fenwick, home build
There are Graphite and Bamboo as well, more on the bench. It never ends this collecting/building and fishing, and collecting/building and fishing, and...
Respectfully rvreclus

To everyone and rvreclus in particular. I was talking to someone in the parking lot of a stream we had both fished. Both of us were removing waders and packing gear back into our vehicles. I noticed he brought a lot he brought a lot of rods for just one day. He had cloth sleeves over the rod tubes. I asked about them. His reply was it worked like camo. His wife stopped asking questions once all the tubes looked the same. I asked how he knew which rod he was reaching for now that EVERY rod tube was in a black sack. He simply laughed.
BTW, seems I'm building a modest Phillipson collection. I recently purchased an 8'0" Lancer L80. Though it has a metal ferrule, it's quite smooth and does well with both a DT5 and WF6. The grip has a large hole that I suspect served as a hookeeper. I plan to plug it with some cork and glue. My other Phillipsons:
FF70C Fly Fox (#6)
7'6" Royal Wand (HDH)
8' PowrKast (HDH)
Abercrombie and Fitch 7'6" (HDH).

I also had a 9' Challenger. 4oz but felt like 4 pounds. LOL! It was the poster child for why folks started buying 9' rods in graphite.

On the bright side my wife has entirely stopped giving me a hard time about buying rods and reels. Either she has figured out the joy they bring me.......or she's figured out they don't cost her a dime. Either way it's all good. Hmmmm lets see, I've done glass, bamboo and graphite, so now maybe I should start collecting old spring steel and new boron rods :)

:) Always room for more reels! I need a few Medalists, maybe a couple Orvis's and a couple high end models.....I'm thinking Hardy and 3Tand :) and maybe a few more vintage British reels. My wife seems to have stopped caring so I might as well jump while I can!

I only keep rods that get fished since I'm not a collector. And I don't have nearly as much time to fish as nearly anyone here. Which means I can't justify a collection. I keep it around 6 rods or less.

Epic 580 (Tightloops build)
T&T Lotic 744 (Leiderman build)
Barclay 70p
McFarland 884
CGR 5/6 (kept as a loaner)

Plus a couple bamboo 4wts.

Considering the vast majority of my rods are 4wt, why is it that every time I think about getting a new rod, I assume it's going to be another 4wt?

Is it bad that I've added a brown SF Scott F79 and a second yellow SF Scott F81?

Of note, the more recent yellow SF Scott F81 I acquired is a pre-incorporation rod (probably 1973?) with the white paper label on the tube and a serial of #81-581. A Wilson basement rod as confirmed by Mr. Kenney. Also interesting due to its reel seat hardware and lack of a fighting butt, so I suppose I should post a few photos here as time allows. The hardware on it is as bright as the day it left Harry's shop, and I seriously doubt it's been fished more than a few times if at all.

For what it's worth I recently added a second Kabuto 764 in mint condition and in the yellow finish. Neat stick to compliment the other Kab.

By golly, I used to buy rodbuilding supplies from Kaufman's. I think it may be where I bought my first Fisher blanks. Never went there, and purposefully skipped it on one trip through Oregon long ago, needing to hold on to some money for coffee and donuts on the long drive back east. Don't know the current status of the business, and would love to see what, if anything, you have collected from their shop.

Yes, they're gone, sadly. Didn't collect much beyond a few flies -- I liked their weighted nymphs -- and small items. Visited the store twice, once in the old location and once in a new place opened not long before they folded. I don't remember the towns, but one was Tigard. They had a great catalog, too.
