Had to have this rod. I might just fish it a couple of times but curiosity just got me. It's 10'6" for a 5/6 and designed for wet fly fishing. The original marketing description is pretty interesting as it refers to this as a modern lightweight version of the old long greenheart rods: http://bruceandwalker.co.uk/files/2313/ ... thodox.pdf

I have a hard time imagining what fishing the old fashioned rods was like. No reel will balance this rod - not even a brass Houghton perfect at close to 9 ounces would do the trick but it casts a 6wt rather well. Learning to use it for its intended purpose will be a bit of a research project.

If anyone has any experience with something this long and made of glass I'd be interested to read about it.

Only ever had one greenheart rod. Was a great casting 4wt.

Sold/traded it to a new friend at a fishing show and last I heard he caught a nice catfish on it. Seems more than happy with the rod.

Always have one or two old 1498 Medalists around to play with the longer rods.

Now you have me thinking Barry … I bet a new Pflueger Medalist 7/8 with some extra backing and a 6WT DT line or a triangle
taper might make that beast manageable ….

Sean,

Not sure what a loaded 7/8 weighs. Empty it's listed as 7.6 ozs.

My fully loaded 1498 comes in at 11.2 ozs. Of course mine is a solid spool which may add some weight.

Good thing about the 1498 is they can often be had on the Bat for $35 to $50.

Of course this post Is from 2015 and he may have possibly found a reel by now.

Last time I heard from Giogio he had only dry cast the rod, hasn’t had it on the water yet.
