Gaddis,

I finally found a Wonderod 1245, Panfish Special. Can you tell me if it is designed for a 6 wt or a 5 wt? Believe it or not, I found this one with a reel for $15.

Thanks friend.

Nice find paveglass. Is it the 6 1/2' or the 7' rod? They are both rated for DT4 and WF6. I use a DT4 on mine.

Thanks Gaddis. It is a 7 ft, standard white wonderod, green wraps, green anodized aluminum ferrule, small cigar grip. I'll have to figure out how to post pictures to put any up. Any directions for how to do that here?

To post an image you will first have to put it on a website. I have used this site in the past. After you've done that, reply to this thread and click on the 'image' button that appears on the left side of the posting window. A little box should open up with a place to type in the URL of your image. Copy and paste the URL from your posted image into the box. (Make sure you include the entire URL, starting from http.) That's all there is to it.

Okay here's a picture test based on the directions I found here. The grip is 5" long so you have a sense of the size.

Looks like it's in pretty nice shape. For $15 you did real well. I had to pay around $75 for mine.

Gaddis, I was told you were the man to ask ... thanks in advance.

Ever since I got this Wonderod, I have wanted to know a little about the history.

I think it is an "newer" rod. The labling is painted(?) into the finish (no stickers). It is an Action Taper, FY 170 8wt DEE. It has US and Canadian patent numbers.

I am very interested in any info you or anyone else can give me.

Again, Thanks!

-Phil

Hi Phil,

That model appeared in the 1974 through 1976 catalogs and came in 8'0" and 8'6" lengths. The DEE date code indicates it was made in June 1976. Guides are chrome steel. You already have the line weight. Hope this helps.

Hope you enjoy it. I have only fished mine a couple of times. The action is sweet, but the grip is short for my hand. I'll have to give it another try.
