Opinions?

Am looking for something in a 8 to 8 1/2' medium to medium fast action. 5/6 weight, possibly 6/7.

Thanks.

No such thing, but if you read some of the old posts, Diamondglass rods receive many positive writeups. I just purchased a Steffen Brothers glass rod for my son's HS graduation present and that one is hard to beat.

Steffen 8' 5/6. Can't beat it. I bought mine last year and it's my go to rod.

Hello. As already stated the Diamondglass and Steffen glass rods are fine fishing tools. If money is no object take a look a the new line of glass rods from T&T, they are amazing. The 8' 5 wt. maybe the best glass rod I have ever cast. I am saving my pennies for one.

I think the 3-pc Diamondglass rods are excellent, and pretty good values in today's market of $600 graphite rods. If I was building a quiver of modern glass rods, the 8.5' 4wt would definitely be a part of it. Their 2-pc tapers seem to be a little more hit or miss, with some being excellent and others feeling a little too strong for my taste.

I have a Steffen 8' 5wt that's also nice, and I hear lots of nice things about his shorter rods, though the only one I cast was a little on the soft side.

I just had the opportunity to cast Rich Margiotta's 7.5' 4wt T&T glass rod (built beautifully from a blank), and it was superb. I'd be interested in casting thei 8' T&T, but the price of those babies is high ...

IMO, the prettiest is Kineya, which appears to be built on a Scott blank.

I noticed that Cabela's in their Clear Creek line has a 6-foot 5-wt. IM6 (CC605), spigot ferrules - may have to grab one of these ...

Ah, if its a 6/7 medium - best buy today, perhaps not today's rods, is an e-bay Fenwick 8.5 , 6 (actually a 6/7) or an 8.5 , 7 weight ( actually a 7/8 - got one of those - great heavy smallmouth and bass bugging). You'll get a great rod design, perfected over years, from the golden age of glass when R&D bucks were really put into glass. One in great shape will go for 50-70 bucks perhaps and you can buy a top line reel and line and much else with change left over versus a top rod built today. Just 2cents ...
Jim Green and Fenwick - great story ...

I have just acquired an 8',5pce,5wt, parabolic from Mike McFarland and I am very impressed.

I have it out a few times on some creeks and a my pond and it is as pleasant a rod to cast as any I've owned. It is worth the price. He photos of the rods on the website don't come close to how handsome it is.

I had a 7'9" Steffen fiberglass in 3 piece during the Glastech years and as a 4wt it was very good. Mark builds some really great rods at good prices.
