I have a Moonlit Lunar 2-wt that is a lot of fun for small streams and tiny flies. The sort of fishing I use it for I don't often have reason to cast much more than 20 feet, and within that range it casts nicely. I also find it roll casts well.

Likewise I got the Lunar 2wt 6'6" at the Lancaster Fly Show. It is more versatile than most of my other 2wts (in cane and graphite). I'll have to measure it off, but I think I can get about twice that 20' in a cast.

I like my Lunar 2wt, too. Didn't care much for the stock factory hardware, but you are building yours out, so there you go :)

Haha, excellent! The nice thing about Moonlit is the rods are very affordable and are often available on sale

Nice! A guide recently asked me if I tie my own flies, and I told him, no I didn't.

He then replied, "I think you mean 'not yet.'"

Earlier this year I built up the Moonlit 8'2" 6wt. along with their 8' 5wt. The 5wt. is significantly softer and slower than the 6wt. and the 6wt. being a faster action and more powerful, lends itself well to long casts of 6wt. Bass taper lines. It has become one of my favorite Smallie rods for sure.

What do you throw at those smallies with that 6 wt? And can you compare its action with anything else you have or have tried?

I tend to toss a lot of decent size baitfish patterns, generally at least size 2 hooks or articulated patterns where I might use a pair of size 2 streamer hooks. If I'm fishing a small stream with small fish and little chance of better smallies, say 17 or 18 inch and up, then I'll throw smaller streamers but never smaller than size 4's. None of my Smallmouth patterns are extremely light including my top water patterns so I need a line and therefore a rod that can get me out there, as I often fish low, slow, and clear water during the summer. This Moonlit 6wt makes it easy and I don't have to overline it to get it to load. As far as comparing it to other glass rods, it's definitely on the faster side, and is not a rod for those that like a really slow and deep bend into the butt near your hand experience. Hope that helps
