The water is super low here this fall, and the LLs are all hunkered under logs, banks, overhangs, etc. when not on the redds, and there they need to be left alone.

Bow & arrow casts, awkward flips, etc. are the name of the game. Tough fishing, and if you hook up with a bigger one, keeping them out of the timber without breaking the tippet is challenging to say the least. My FF806, which my dad bought for a camping trip we took to the Sawtooths in Idaho when I was a wee lad back in the 1970s, is absolutely perfect for this type of fishing.

Love the males this time of year

Nice! (I cringed when I saw that Odyssey in the mud, though...)

Just slightly silty water, not mud - angle of the sunlight made it look much darker than it was. A quick rinse and she's working just fine. But I get your reaction looking back at the photo again!

I suspect I know where you were today - had a friend text me to give me encouragement to get out there in the next few days. I am just recovering from the flu or I might have given it a shot on this beautiful day. Congrats on the fish - nice setup and pictures!

That’s an amazing fish. I’ve driven by that area many times, never stopped to try.
