Finding a hole to yourself on the 4th of July in my neck of the woods is darned near impossible!
Proof positive that even a blind squirrel like me sometimes finds a nut..
Brought two rods I had been dying to try out an old 7ft Swamp Fox Dlx light action spin rod and a minty fresh 8ft Epoxite 6wt blank/kit-rod.
Started in the deep hole known as big Boulder pool with the Swamp Fox Dlx
I wanted to test some “Mop Darts” I had tied up last week . I took the mop fly concept and adapted it on a small Shad dart .
Been playing with the length of the tail to get the swim action just right
The Red Breasted Sunfish make for great R&D
Tried going deep with the Epoxite
The Epoxite came up a loser in this pool .
I guess all the sunfish spooked the Bass off..
Did enjoy casting the Epoxite it has great balance with the 440 reel 75yds backing and a wf6 line
Took one last shot of the rods sitting on BIg Boulder .
Hiked down downstream to one of my favorite honey holes .. “Lil Waterfall Flat”
The perfect hole for Hoppers and terrestrials
Starts as tiny waterfall and opens to a pretty nice Flat about Knee/Thigh deep.
.
This pool really let the Epoxite shine..
Caught this guy in the middle of the pool after the Epoxite just kissed that fly on the water .
A bit later after missing a few small whipper snappers hitting the hopper i connected with this chunkier fella up by the water fall in a pocket of soft water .
what a scrapper ..
On the very next cast got the fish of the day
The Epoxite sure came up a winner in waterfall flat . It was getting close to dinner .
One last lil guy
Headed home and grilled up some steaks for the family
After dinner I took it down to the cove and put in a few hundred or so casts on the Epoxite just to tune my tempo and stroke to match this stellar rod.
Hope some of you were able to get out yesterday and fish a great American rod on our nation’s birthday .
Next year it’s gonna be a Fenwick or Fisher 4th for sure..
