Had a great day chasing bluegills with my System 4 rod and Martin LM45 reel. Also caught a couple of crappies and a handful of small Largemouth Bass. The hot flies were olive or black Gurglers, foam beetles, and a small brown Wooly Bugger with a glass bead. A pic:

One of my favorite ways to fly! Beautiful rig, Scott.

Nice. This is how it all started for me and I’m sure many others. As soon as this crazy weekend ends I’ll be after it like that myself.

I’m kinda of a stickler ,in that Sa system rods need Sa/Hardy system reels.
But that Martin has my approval in a major way.
That’s a killer looking lil rig for busting Bluegills
Good times!

After years and years of trying all sorts of different brands of reels, I seem to have naturally settled into being a Ross/Lamson/Martin guy. I don't have a single Hardy-made reel anymore.
Seems like the biggest factor for me is weight/balance. If a reel has the right weight to balance with a good number of my rods, it's a keeper. My Martin LM's balance perfectly with a large number of shorter rods, so they get the nod with 7.5-footers and shorter. :)

Like the fish, and the combo too. Understated design and smooth performance.

Gosh dang... every time I see that handle I miss that very same reel I once had...
and those rods, they have such fantastic build quality. So under appreciated.

What a sick setup. Deliciously evil. Love it!
Nice ear too.

Not so sure on the under appreciated thing. One just went for a skosh under $400 on the auction site…. Should have purchased one a few years back when the were still seemingly pricy, but not THAT pricy….
