Here on the western basin of Lake Erie, it's the annual white bass run. They gobble up white clousers like candy. While not the most glorious game fish, it's the one time a year I can literally walk to go fly fishing. My 7'6" 5wt semi parabolic rod from James Green is just about the perfect rod for the small creek that runs through town. It made a nice grilled lunch too on a nice spring day on my day off.

That is a nice size bass. There must have been a couple of nice fillets off of it.

White bass in the great lakes are a lot of fun. I've caught a ton in the niagara river.

yep... they are fun. To Stonefly above, yes, there would have been some nice filets if I was better at cleaning fish. But yes, they were nice with some Brazilian bbq seasoning.

a handsome fish, very nice indeed..

there are white bass in some of the lakes and reservoirs around here. These are pelagic with no stream runs, so need a boat and electronics to catch them.. I've tried from the canoe a couple times without success. Slightly envious of your fishing, though not bitter ;-)

Made it out a couple of times this spring here in eastern Oklahoma on some streams that have nice white bass runs:

On one trip, the buffalo were also spawning on a feeder stream and were stacked like cordwood. Made for a fun day as bycatch (and release):

I have never had the opportunity to fish for white bass in their natural range, but would love to!

Further west, there are reservoirs and lakes where the powers to be have planted a sterile white bass / striper hybrid known as wipers. They are fun to catch, and in some places can be caught up to several pounds, and are very good eating in my experience.

There are quite a few of these in the Hamilton Harbour.I dont know if I would eat them as there is still a pollution problem here, but they are doing a lot of work to clean it up.Regardless ,the harbour has become a fish factory.Apparently it has become one of the best spots in north america for carp fishing. There are some large ones here for sure.

That white bass must have been a hoot on that rod - nice chunky bass.
