Today we had strong north winds, which didn’t delay my fishing. It was my first trip with an ff806 I bought off a form I’m member. What a great rod! Maybe a second one is in order. For the first time I’m starting to understand how people got by with a single 8 foot 6 wt for most fishing.

I managed a few small bass and a brown trout.

Well done, looks like that rod handled the wind well. I’ve seen a lot of FF806s on the auction site recently for very reasonable prices … might be time to take the plunge on Jim Green’s favorite rod if anybody has had an eye on one …

I have to concur that an FF806 is about as close to a "one rod covers all" as a person can get. In particular, I find it a great dry fly rod.
I don't have two, but I do have a pair of the only "vintage" rod I consider its superior in all situations except wind- the Cortland FR-2000.

I just did the same thing with a Cortland Pro-Crest 1-620-1. I bought one, used it once and saw another good deal on the same rod with a matching reel and snapped it up.
