I wanted to use a cane rod so I enjoyed fishing in a sato-gawa today.
Sato-gawa (里川 in kanji) refers to streams and rivers that are adjacent to the human living area and have low gradient and open environment.

Flowers seen in this time were in bloom on the riverbank.

Satsuki (皐月 in kanji, Rhododendron indicum, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhododendron_indicum)

Fuji (藤 in kanji, Japanese wisteria, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisteria_floribunda)

Le Connoisseur 733, 7 ft 3 in, #2-3, built by Bjarne Fries, was used.

I caught boys and girls...
A big one came to say hello but he did not bite the fly...

Thank you for looking.

Lovely looking water and fish. I have a small creek that runs past the bottom of my garden--the Badger Creek. Upstream there are farms and forest. Downstream other houses. There are wild trout in the creek as well as native Australian fish. I feel very fortunate to have trout fishing almost on my doorstep and other small creeks close to home. These are my sato-gawa. If you ever come to Australia, I would be more than happy to take you out on these waters.
Cheers,
Steve

Beautiful looking streams. A long time ago I was visiting Japan and found myself wondering if there were trout in any of the streams.
The trout look similar yet different to hat we have in the States. Thanks for sharing.

Takeru:

Does your Le Connoisseur have metal ferrules or one of Bjarne's "F.I.B.H." bamboo ferrules?

Takeru,
Its amazing just how different your photos look from home, but also how familiar some of them seem. I always enjoy seeing them, thank you for sharing.

Waterworks Purist ULA P2 fly reel. Simple and cool reel.

My Le Connoisseur has not metal ferrule but the Fries Integrated Bamboo Hexaferrule (F.I.B.H).

The F.I.B.H. is an interesting concept and makes the rod especially light in hand which is the whole idea of the Le Connoisseur Series.

Beautiful rod!!

gaddis,

The trout is Amago that lives only in Japan. One of the main targets of Japanese fly fisher.
