Picked up a few vintage glass rods recently and some Martin reels. The rods are all a FF60 and a RWF60 both say 6wt. Would you suggest going with a DT5, DT6 or WF6? I'm looking at 406 line because it seems to be pretty popular here and its made in the US. Thanks for the help

A certain FF60 I had at one point worked well with a rio gold 5wt.

The cortland sylk lines left a bad taste in folks mouths early on with some apparent quality issues. I have a sylk dt4 and like it much more than the peach, much more supple. I wouldnt hesitate to buy more of them.

Ive also been continually curious about 406 lines but Ive never tried one.

406 lines are regular tapers true to weight specs and solid performers - DT or WF - your choice.

As an owner & user of many vintage fly rods, IMHO DT lines usually feel and cast the best---try 5 and or 6.
Good fishing.

For a cheaper alternative, I've had good luck with the Airflo Velocity DT6F. They can be had in $35 range from various Internet sites. Good luck.

Besides the usual culprits (406, Cortland Peach) you might want to think about a Royal Wulff Triangle Taper, makes my Fenglass 766-4 come to life. I’ve seen reviews say this line is for experienced casters which I do not understand, I’m a lazy ham fisted hack of a caster and this line is very good to me. Great recommendation from GnG.

Through this thread, I first learned about the existence of "406 fly lines" and its design concept. That was very meaningful information. Thank you very much!
