Thanks that makes a lot of sense and was the type of answer I was looking for, so on An FF85 that is a Marked for a 7-8-9wt the thought process would be something along the lines of using a WF 7WT with drys, a DT 8 for wet flies and a sinking or intermediate 9wt for streamers or nymph rigs? I did a quick look to get more information on Jim Green and what a fascinating individual. Be interested to learn more about him.

And the variation in construction from batch to batch can be significant.
For example, my FF85-3 B-series is hand-written-labeled to weigh 4oz. I just weighed it. Actual weight is 3.70oz.
