The landlocks are really thinning out now, saw 4 total (1 followed my fly then bailed) in 6 hours of fishing, way fewer than I saw 2 weeks ago. But did pick up this gorgeous rainbow. Long and skinny ... This is the second time in the last 10+ years I've picked up a big rainbow looking for LL's. I believe they follow LL's upstream this time of year to feast on eggs and nymphs that get thrown up into the current when the LL's are building their redds, then they fall back into deeper water off the gravel when the action is done. I don't think enough of them do this to specifically target them, but I always do a little blind casting into likely water just in case. Paid off yesterday!

Thanks! This is my go to November outfit - the Morgan handles bigger fish (I've caught LL over 24" in here) in this small, deadwood infected river that I focus on. And I love the Streamline reel - nice and smooth, which makes sense as the drag system was a copy of Ari T Hart's system as I understand the folklore ....

And definitely one of the prettiest rainbows I've caught on the east coast. Was a stocker in its youth, but clearly has a couple years of reservoir meat eating under its belt. Hope I find her again next year, as she'll be over 20" by then!

Nice! How were the crowds? I heard that river was pretty crowded this year with people from out of state also showing up. I had a couple of nice days last fall. The Morgan is a great choice. At first I thought it might be too much rod because of the stream size but with the downfalls and potential for a large fish…it is a great fit.

Crowd this weekend was not too bad at all, but I suspect that's because everyone knew the LL's were heading back to the reservoir.

The Morgan really is perfect for this fishing .... a 7 weight graphite rod would be unbearable, too hard to make the weird angle roll casts you have to make here all the time. Last year I had a 20"+ LL in a tough spot, and I really had to lean in to keep it from going into a log cave - it was nice to have the relatively soft tip of the Morgan to absorb the head shakes while the backbone of the lower part of the rod gave me the leverage I needed.

I've used an Epic 6 weight here before, and it was fine, but I just feel more confident with the Morgan. Plus it's brown, which is important ;-)
