I bought a 10'6" 4 weight switch rod from Shane Gray a few months ago. Last week had a chance to go to Bennet Spring Park in Missouri for the first time in six years. Due to my limitations in wading it is necessary to roll cast a lot there. My friend, Charlie Reading, who owns a fly shop there set me up with a Rio #2 Trout Spey line for the rod. Wow! With that line I could easily roll cast further than I have ever been able to. So little effort casting by just pulling down with my left hand. Saves my old arthritic shoulder. If you need to roll cast or have a switch rod, give this set up a try.

Is this glass or graphite? I’d love to know more about the specs.

It is a graphite rod. I looked for a light line fiberglass switch rod but didn’t have any luck finding one.

Yes, though not as well promoted, there are many rods and a few lines well suited or single hand spey or switch rods. I myself use a James Green 10' (made it as a switch) or Scott Arc.

Rio trout spey is good, and sadly it appears Airflo is reducing - discontinuing their great switch streamer float line.

I spent more than a year looking for a glass trout switch/Spey rod. Finally found an Echo on eBay. It’s pretty cool - can’t wait to use it when I get back out on the right kind of rivers…
