This is the nicest one; banged the fly almost as soon as it hit the water and did most of his thrashing and tugging on top. Fenglass 4wt...

Nice! Is that a catfish? What fly did you use?

That is really cool. Cats are a blast on a fly they pull very hard. Look like a channel catfish beautiful fish.

Do you find that catfish often spook when you strip the fly? I’ve only managed to catch a few in all these years.

I've never noticed them to spook when the fly is stripped. I've had them chase the fly many times. Fun to catch, but they sure put a twist in the line.

This one's a channel cat. They seem to like a black wooly bugger, often under an indicator, and they'll track it sometimes before they take. Local drainage lake about 8-10 blocks from my house.

I fish a lake that was stocked years ago with white catfish. The stocking took hold and there are a few remaining that have reached pretty good size. Every year ,we get a couple on woolybuggers fished right along the drop offs on the bottom. They fight like heck. A lot of fun.
