Water has become pretty low on most creeks in my tri-state corner. Two weeks ago I landed some nice ones in a pool that is now virtually non-existent.

A couple from Sept. 3rd on the Lami 906.

However, water has become very low. Fish are cautious and finicky. I lost a lovely 13”-14” Smallie but it was so much fun on the 733. I’ll take what I can get. It’s been a fun and productive year on the creeks. And today was a lot of fun with the McFarland. I used a 3 wgt line my dad gave me - Probius? or some cheap line. I also used a 4 wgt line I’ve had forever and don’t know the brand - blue cheap stuff maybe? Anyways, the 3 wgt line did well with both small and weighted flies but obviously, better with the 4 weight line - best with casting weighted flies. I love the taper and the fat boy I lost made me so happy to have built on a McFarland. In fact, I’ve got 5 wgt blanks ready to build.

I live near a lot of good trout water like the Norfork, Taney, etc across the Ozarks but I just prefer warmwater creeks.

Great brownies! I imagine the McFarland 733 was doubled over nicely with that 13-14” fish. I’m with you on the warmwater preference. We have some decent trout streams in North GA and Western NC, but I’m a big fan of the native warmwater species that are often overlooked.

Looks like fun on a light rod. What size weighted flies are you using with the 4wt line?

Don't get much better than Ozark brownies and goggle eye on a 3 wt. Nice build on the McFarland.

Nice! That McFarland 733 is one I’ve been eyeing lately. Looks like you did a great job with the build. And I fished that same reel for years! The spool is so bent I’ve had to retire it but many a fond memory with the old Martin. Cheers!

Excellent photos. The goggle eye is beautiful! Hopefully we’ll get some rain soon.

Nothing beats a good day of smallmouth catches, thanks for sharing the experience. That goggle eye brings back many memories, would love to get into a good batch of them again on my home water in Missouri but the agriculture runoff has taken it's toll here, they just aren't there anymore.

Hello, SB, what model of 7'3" McFarland blank did you use? Looks fantastic. The quiver is growing... Thanks, Dave

That bass in the first picture is a large one for a small stream.

Dave dog, Ameriglass blanks.

Stonefly, I’ve caught some nice ones on skinny water. They’ll move upstream into smaller creeks with higher water and find a nice place to hang out or just any number of reasons. I found larger bass where I never had before on a stretch that received riparian restoration. That stretch of creek never averaged more than a foot. But they’ve brought in habitat with root balls.

Yup. The white rod is the McFarland. Just sharing some photos with the Lamiglas too.
