I got to the river yesterday. It was a beautiful morning the water was clear and cold and I got several strikes, and two med sized browns to hand. I was fishing the Phillipson X86, a beauty to the eye and the hand...what a casting rod...so smooth. Its a 6 wgt and handled the water and the lite winds with style and grace. The reel is a JW Young Pridex...maybe the perfect reel for this rod and this water! I got chased off the water after about 2 hours in, by the lightning...Thunderstorm raged and it poured the entire time I was getting out of my waders...with no sign of an end to the storm I called it a day.

Glad you got a good day in before the storm! Love those JW Youngs.

Nice. A shortened day due to a thunderstorm sure beats the lightning and downpour right after you’ve rigged up.

I love Philipson rods. The Rio Grande starts in Southern Colorado between Creede and Lake City Colorado. Beautiful country. Thanks for the pics.

I spent some time this summer fishing near you. Beautiful country. I’ll be back soon.
