Fished my favorite creek for just the third time this year. It’s mostly been blown out since early Spring. Was 2000 cfs a few weeks ago. Nice and quiet. No floaters. You wouldn’t see many on a Monday but with Covid throwing a wrench in lives, I have encountered so many more folks than usual.

Fish were caught and fun was had. Just a few photos. The Smallie is 13” and played in at least 225 cfs but a pretty swift current at that spot. I haven’t used the rod since Fall 2018. Mainly because I’ve got some other rods but honestly, I wonder what would happen to it if used often. Being at least as old as me. This rod is a blast. Love the flex. I figured it wouldn’t flex as deep with it being a 6 wgt. Truly a thrill with those Smallmouth. I had a couple of jumpers today. Love that leap.

The last fish photo is from October ‘18.

This photo has a rope swing - I can barely make it out. Been that way for ages. I casted in right below and drifted to catch that Smallie. Caught quite a few right here. Sometimes, ya just let swimmers have the tree.

Pretty fish and nice looking rod. The water looks tranquil and quiet.

Great shots! How does the 75-4 do with those larger flies?

What a coincidence ! I got done with work early yesterday and took off to a local state park with my Fenwick 75-4 (a G model). I fished the creek below the dam there and caught the same brightly colored long ear sunfish. There are no smallmouth in this section of the creek, but I did catch a Kentucky spotted bass that went a shade over 13". Like you, there was no one fishing the stream or lake on a very unusual day here with mild temps and low humidity. I just wish there were smallmouth in this stream like yours, but the Kentucky bass are every bit as fun as the smallies. Sorry I didn't take a camera.

Brookieboy - It does well with heavy or larger flies. I was using Rio Bass line which may have been a bit too much for it. Previously, was using Cabelas 6 wgt line which seemed to do a good job.

Cjtarbox - I have an H model. Might use it a bit more.

Panfish, I was using a S.A. Frequency Boost 5 wt. on mine and felt it a little light. I have a Cabelas WF 6, 406 DT 6, and Rio DT 6 so next time I'll try one of those. Should be able to dial in a good match for the rod. Oh, the only reliable fly I use on this creek is a green foam gurgler in a #6 or #4 size.

Just too purty. I love seeing other waters, other parts of the country on this site.
