I hiked 4+ miles into a favorite but distant section of a favorite stream yesterday. This picture is taken about halfway to the lower access which can be seen in the distance.

Three miles of this stream has limited access because of the cliffs that line each side of the canyon.

The water was a little higher than usual due to some recent rains but the fish were there.

This is one of many Brown trout I caught and released there. I also landed several Rainbows and Brookies.

The waters are pristine and remote due to the high physical price of admission and I ran into one other tenkara angler who appreciated the place as much as I do.

He returned back downstream at this point where a neck deep wade/swim is required to continue upstream. We parted ways as I continued upstream to complete my fishing day before returning home. A very physical trip to be sure but a rewarding one.

Good stuff, my kind of fishing.

Reminds of a spot from this past spring ...

Lots of scrambling on steep slopes and granite, and poison oak suffering afterwards :)

Thanks for sharing. I think you’ve shown this one before, and I’d probably turn around where the tenkara guy did, especially if solo. But those sort of challenges to further travel always have me thinking “if you can just get above that ….” Glad you have knowledge of what’s up there.

Great fun. My old dog is no longer capable of real scrambles, and I am starting to look twice at em too.

Thanks for posting.

It is clear that Odonato and I are kindred spirits. Don't tell me you can't do this...I turn 70 in two weeks, just take your time so as to not injure yourself. As Clint Eastwood says; "Don't let the old man in!"

Throw me into the kindred spirits bucket. When can I fly to CO to meet you for one of your hikes in fishing trips?

Very nice...love the pics...There are still some quiet/peaceful spots in Colorado...you just have to get to them.

Congrats!

Great photos! I love the rugged adventure reports! I've done some pretty crazy things to catch a 6" fish.

My backpacking partner is from Arvada and he is ~70...I can barely keep up with him. ;) We will be in your neck of the woods in a couple of weeks (Aug 8-15), hope we can meet up somewhere. I'm sure you two could share many Colorado adventures.

Chris

I agree that we share the same spirit of distant adventures. You might want to check in with Aurelio as we sometimes are able to share times in remote and high places. I have some commitments this summer, but hopefully we can get together some day.
