I enjoyed a 2-day fishing trip for catching high mountain Gogi and went home today.

I went out with two friends with equipment for camping as well as fishing at headwaters.
We had to climb a detour cliff to fish upstream of a 170-foot-high waterfall.
The slope of the detour was steep and often required ropes.

A view from the top of the waterfall.

We started fishing right after we finished climbing the cliff.

Very clean stream...

I heard that there was a village in this headwaters until about 100 years ago.
In fact, sometimes some stone walls were right next to the stream...

Fish responded to flies very actively.

Gogi in various colors.

I caught some Amago.
The fish in the photo have few or no red dots, but are said to be Amago, not Yamame.

I found frequently Nihon-hikigaeru. (Bufo japonicus) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_common_toad)

Camping fun.

The light of the tent attracted many insects

The weather on the second day was rainy.
As the rain was getting heavier, we decided to withdraw early.

Most trout streams/rivers in Japan have too many anglers and it is difficult to fish satisfactorily.
It takes some effort to meet a lot of trout.

Thank you for looking.

Gorgeous location and fish. The Gogi looks to be a Char, similar to Brook Trout which are Char.

Yes, Gogi is a kind of Char. They are a subspecies of the White spotted char and inhabit only in Japan.
