Spent a couple days flinging buggers, nymphs and dries at trout in a highland lake in Utah and must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Was able to cast a bugger even with a stiff breeze and after learning to slow down and give the rod time to load properly I could pin-point my casts easily. This was my first time casting a vintage Fenwick and I think my graphite rods are going to be housebound for the rest of the year. I started out with a DT6 Cortland 444 on a Cabelas reel but the Cabelas after 4 wonderful years finally gave up the ghost so I put on my Orvis Battenkill III with DT5 and it performed well too but in a stiff breeze was not as capable as the DT6. I just love the look and feel of this rod!

Caught about 25 the first day and 15 the second day, mostly bows and a few cutts plus this gorgeous brookie. BTW - I forgot my net hence the handshots with the fish.

Will be going next month for some tubing in a large reservoir where I'll try out a FF75 for tiger trout and cutts. Can't wait!!

That rod is certainly a proven performer. I notice that your rod has the cork spacer and uplocking reel seat. I'm guessing it is an M or N series rod.

I have always enjoyed the extra mass of a 6 wt line in my hand, especially when wind could be a factor.

Dang that orange bellied Brookie is gorgeous.
FF806’s are so awesome...
I have well north of 200 rods in my quiver if I had to give up 199 of them you can rest assured my FF806 will stay.
I love mine so much I joked with the wife that I’d want to be buried with mine since I wouldn’t want my two sons to fight over who gets Dads “favorite” rod. Lol
From Brookies to Bass and everything In between .
Truly the “do it all “ rod..

Looking forward to seeing more “testing” From you and the FF806

Beautiful fish, love the Fenwick. Not easy to find the lighter models in New Zealand. Rarer than hens' teeth. Thanks for sharing. Cheers

You are correct on the serial number Pave. It's N252929 and I'm with you on the 6wt in the wind. I could cast at least 7-10 feet farther with it.

Beautiful fish! Love my FF806-4! It would be my entry into "if you could only have one rod."

Here is one from the stash you might enjoy
The FF806’s evil twin..
Fenwick‘s Yellow Jacket KF96-6
Same as a FF806 but the blank is “Unsanded” in Fenwick Yellow
Scored it for $30 from the Og owners son.
He wanted a $100 until I pointed out that the rod has been repaired with a stint.
Still casts just like My late production FF806

That yellow boy looks like a nice one. My graphite rods are decreasing and my glass ones are increasing.

Otto, was the Yellow Jacket at standard off-the-shelf model? When were they made?

Neuralize
The yellow jacket was a Fenwick factory production model #KF96-6
They are kinda rare compared to the FF806 that the yellow jacket was based on.
Prices for one can be all over the place.
They share Same triple digit feralite taper and construction 8foot 6wt
The 2 differences being
one that it’s yellow and not brown and the offer major difference is that the the blank is “Unsanded” style.
In that you can see and feel the old “spiral wrap” tape marks left from the manufacturing process .
Just like a Shakespeare wonderod or The ever popular Orvis Unsanded graphite rods from 75-03
Brown Fenwick feralites Were sanded out of the ovens And get that beautiful fenwick finish.

The Unsanded yellow jackets and “yellow” lunker sticks have that cool texture that only an Unsanded rod has.
I also think Unsanded rods are lil/tiny bit stronger since Wall material Is not sanded away.
Making a stronger blank vs something that have been sanded too much.. sometimes

The one downside to a light colored Unsanded rods is that dirt and grit love to get into those tiny ridges and can be a b pain to clean
