Planning a trip now for July and where I'll be fishing highland lakes and small streams for trout from 6" - 22". It's in Utah and what's cool is that on a given day I might catch rainbow, brook, cutts, brown, tiger and splake. Planning on using the 706 for the smaller waters and the 807 for the larger stuff where I could be throwing big beaded buggers to size 8. During the winter I picked up the K series 807 at a very low price even though I was looking for an 806. I've never fished an 8' or longer Fenwick rod and am looking forward to see how it does. Planning on using the line I have which is a Cortland 444 DT6. I'll provide some pics and comments when I return.

Now that I think of it, my steelhead rod (bait cast) in the early 1970's was a Fenwick paired with a Mitchell 300. :)

Sounds like fun.
Although I might suggest that before taking a special trip, especially one involving some sweat equity, I’d want to put a rod I planned to use through its paces, just to make sure it would work the way I wanted.
So, a reason to get some fishing done before then.

Done a little back yard casting with it and I really like it, on dry land at least. Pretty powerful rod with great balance.

I'm retired now and go up there 5-6 times a year. Lot's of fish and few people. I really like it.

I’ve used my FF807 for western trout. I’ve fished my 806 way more but the times I’ve used the 807 it’s been great, just slightly more powerful which could actually come in handy in wind or slinging nymph rigs, streamers, or big dries

I own an FF807 along with other various rods of different composition and if your are looking for a line that will reach out effortlessly along with handling large flies, my go to line is an Orvis Hydros Bank Shot in the line weight of your rod. PM me for details on how to cast this line. You will be amazed on how this line performs.

I loved my 807 and really regret selling it. It was my favourite casting of all the Fenwicks I’ve had.
