I got an invitation for a quick fun trip to fish a friend’s West Texas ranch ponds. I wanted to connect with some largemouth bass on my SFG 6 as a warmup for my Montana trip next week. I put Jim Gray’s “Hill Country Box” in my pack, along with a bunch of my other favorite bass and panfish flies. Jim’s “Llano Fox” in particular was a big hit with the largemouth and piggy panfish alike.

The topwater action was exciting to see this early in the spring.

Photo of me by pal Greg DeMars who also ties some real bass slayer clousers!
I also had a great time fishing Greg’s old Sage graphite 905.
As a bonus, I landed the biggest catfish I’ve ever caught, fishing my new Chris Raine bamboo Winston 7042. But that is a post for another forum!

:lol Awesome! Many years ago I bought a new Orvis 2wt. and stood on my buddy's dock on a large lake to try it out. I tied on a weighted PT and caught a bullhead on the first cast. I chuckle about it every time I pick up that rod.

Forgot to post the actual Llano Fox in largemouth bass mouth photo and a few of my other favorites, including the colored up bluegill!

A few of the finest fishing days I’ve had. I put my Graywolf NFC 4wt to work as well. My buddy who doesn’t usually fish glass was reluctant to give it back to me, he enjoyed fishing with it so much.
