So for Xmas I asked the wife to troll eBay for a few 6 to 8 weight glass rods from Fenwick. I am one lucky man, let me tell you. One I ended up with was a ff79, which I had never heard of. I set it aside, not thinking much of it until yesterday.

I lined it with a five weight (what was lying around). Lo and behold, what a great casting rod! It rockets small to medium trout flys 50 feet. I managed a few perch and pickerel (no trout) on little size 10 streamers.

Light, sensitive, and fairly flexible.

The FF79 is one of my favorites! One of the best dry fly rods ever!

Really a fun rod. Mine is not from the year I was born; that’s not possible. They were all made later. The day after fishing, the rod seems unencumbered by any creaks, which I can’t always say for myself.

It casts so easily I find myself using it even when I’d be better off with a stouter today.
