I bought Gary's beautiful blue 6’6” 2/3 wt 2 pc that he built on a Batson blank. I took it out fishing yesterday in Dallas for some urban creek exploring. The weather is perfect and water is warming up. The green sunfish and bluegill / hybrid action is on fire in Turtle Creek.

The 2nd fatty was way bigger than my hand.
Biggest greenie I’ve ever pulled out of my favorite local creek.
Super fun on this 2wt glass.
I thought it was a decent largemouth at first!

Nice, looks like a lot of fun. Those are fine panfish must have been a blast on a 2 wt.

Dave, I guess the old saying is true.
Everything is Bigger in Texas.
Especially the Sunnies.
That is a super Lunker of a greenie.
I’m kinda jealous. They only get to about 7 inches here in Maryland.

They are super aggressive though and will half choke themselves on 4 inch swim baits
My son loves to catch them When the bass fishing is slow.

That’s a catch of a lifetime in my neck of the woods.
Bravo to you good sir .

Ottobahn,

They are so fun to catch. I think of them my target practice. I love them and catch more of them than any other fish. Most of the ones I catch around here look just like the one in your top picture and smaller.

I dont have that 2/3 weight Batson but I did a few years ago.I tried to get one of those blue acrylic reel seats for one of my Batson RX6 rods but they wont ship to Canada. Those bull gills on that light rod must have been a long fight.I like these Batson RX6 gaphite rods as they are slower than many others.

Stonefly,

That blue acrylic reel seat was what really put me over the edge on buying this rod. It just makes me happy every time I rig it up.
