I hadn't fished in over three months so Mike and I, along with a friend of ours, decided to take a midweek trip to the homewaters. The weather was cold and cloudy but we were dressed and prepared for the occasion. The rods of choice on this day were a couple of our favorites, the Orvis SFG 805 and the ********* 865.

The bend is your friend :) Mike and the Orvis SFG taking care of business...

********* 865 is my go-to rod and a great choice for multi nymph rigs. Its also a great hopper/dropper rod and small dry fly rod. It can really do everything and is smooth as silk ;)

Our friend Clark with a nice brown. Clark was fishing an Orvis graphite rod. We'll make a glass convert out of him yet...

My gear...lots of Fishpond

Randomness...

Like I said, we were prepared for the cold ;) Until next time, my friends

Great pics.
Is that a gray hair in your beard or an errant piece of tippet? :)

LOL! That's Mike and I do believe it's a gray hair. He has a long way to go to catch me in that department though...

(thanks to Dave Fason for this image which so accurately captures me in all my gray-bearded agedness) :lol

Robert, as usual awesome pics and fish. Can’t agree more the rods you and Mike fished are two of my favorites too. Well done!

I love the Orvis SFG 805. It’s my go to rod for stream fishing.

Thanks for taking us along for the journey, Robert. Nice fish and photos, as always. I hope your friend Clark at least made a few casts with the ********* or Superfine to see what he’s missing.

Great post and pictures! I have to believe there was some hiking required to get to water and fish like that. Hope to see you guys when you are down this way this summer.

Great report on the fishing. That was also a really nice photo essay - well-framed shots, great visual storytelling. Appreciate the effort and results.

Looks like the perfect day: beautiful fish on quality fiberglass accompanied by whiskey and cigars and good beer to keep up the hydration.

Caught a real dark holdover Bow in the North Potomac years ago and your pic took me back to that catch.
Looking forward to see some more posts with your crew.
If you guys ever come Fishing in Western Maryland, Your welcome to stay at my place (15 minutes from the Savage River) .
Only catch is y’all need to bring me a Nip of that Monkey Shoulder Whiskey . (It’s gets cold on the Mountain ) Lol
Keep those glass rods bent .
