Based on what I've read I was thinking about Cortland 444 DT6. What do you think? I fish lakes and streams for trout to 18".

Not sure where you have read what. THe 807 is a 7/8 in my hands, a great bass bug rod with an 8wt. If just trout size flies a 7wt would be fine.

I think I got my reading mixed up a bit because I've been reading posts here on both the 807 and the 806. Went back and looked but there was at least one person who suggested trying the DT6 on the 807. I have a recently acquired 807 and would like to try it out soon. I'm a newbie to glass having lived in the graphite world for years. What say you then............WF7 or DT7 for this rod? I've only used WF over the years. Catching trout in streams or lakes.

Try a WF7 and a WF8. See which one you like better. Don't be surprised if you like one line in some situations and another line in others. For that matter, it won't hurt to try a WF6. There's no rule that says only one line can be used on a given rod. If you have a DT7 line, try it with a long leader for trout fishing. Supposedly Jim Green claimed the FF807 was the best all purpose trout rod that Fenwick made.

I have a WF8 line spooled on a big Daiwa reel just for evening/night fishing with an FF837. The heavier line is easier to feel at night.
