Glad you are enjoying your 806-4. Don’t be afraid to try out a 7-wt line on it. Mine sings with it.
Tangentially related question - what’s your preferred wild mushroom preparation/recipe?

I’ve heard that some prefer it with a 7 weight. I’ll definitely give it a shot at some point.

Depends on the mushroom really. These ones have a really strong almond/marzipan flavour so they either are cooked on their own, or need something rich to balance it out a bit. I’ve only had these a couple of times but the oil/butter and garlic approach has never failed me. I love foraging...

On another note. If anyone knows of a modern 806-4 equivalent in 7.5-8’ in 4 pieces that is light, has a low swing weight, true 6 weight, fine tip for close in presentations with a strong butt for bigger fish, with a fighting butt, I’m all ears...

The Fenwick FF-756-4 is the little brother to the FF-806-4 and it has everything you mentioned except the fighting butt. The one I have does have a rubber plug (see picture) that might allow a properly sized fighting butt to be plugged in, or maybe a replacement reel seat with a fighting butt could be installed.

The FF-75-4 probably edges it out in the "fine tip" and "light swing weight" department, but it is a 5 wt.

After buying and selling several Fenwicks, the 806-4 is the last Fenwick left in my collection, as I’m leaning towards modern glass now. The 806-4 is a 6/7 weight to me, so I would say the modern equivalent is a Steffen 6/7. The Steffen obviously isn’t a true 6 weight, but it excels at every other attribute in your list.

I was fishing the Steffen on a local pond last night with a WF7 line, and I continue to be amazed how delicately the rod lays down an unweighted streamer. Nice carp, by the way - thanks for the follow up report.

this is the correct answer, can confirm it works great on carp up to 15lb..

That’s about 4 recommendations for the 756-4. Was the other rod I was looking at but the 806-4 came up first and I like the idea of the slightly longer length.

And I’ve blown my rod budget for the year already... maybe if I pay in cash my wife won’t find out... j/k

Interesting, the FF-806-4 is harder to find than the FF-756-4. I think you've got it covered with the rod you have, as far as Fenwicks go.

Great photos and congratulations on a nice carp on your Fenwick. I have yet to land a carp. I know this is late coming but I was fishing the Paluxy in North Texas with forum member Jon aka bluegillonthefly when he hooked up to a relatively large carp (20” +/-) on his Barclay 3wt (possibly a Blue Ridge Special?). I witnessed a great technical battle ensue, and helped him get it in the net at the end. All that is to say you can get it done with a lighter weight rod but I do agree a 6 or 7 would be ideal. It’s down to the angler, the fish and the conditions of the day.
