As I said in my last post, I had to make an unexpected move back to Alberta, Canada. Well, I'm finally out of quarantine and got the chance to test my NFC 764-4 on some arctic grayling up here in northwestern Alberta. The rod performed beautifully tossing dries and nymphs. I absolutely love this thing.

Nice fish ! Wish I were there right now.

Have only been to Alberta to ice climb in winter, back during my younger days.

That's awesome! I caught Grayling in the US once in a high mountain Montana lake. Caught their relatives once in an English chalkstream. It would be fun to have regular access to Grayling (and smoke-free air, actually). I'm envious...

Lucky you having such close access to Grayling. I caught a little one in Yellowstone a few years back.

Haven't seen grayling like that since I left Alaska many years ago. They would come up through 8' of crystal clear water to take a fly on top. Beautiful fish and great times.

Thanks, y'all. I'm glad you enjoyed the pics. I definitely love being back in grayling country. The larger one I posted was taped at 15", which is about as big as you're likely to catch in Alberta. Now that I'm getting settled and have started a new job I'll be frantically trying to catch what I can of northwestern Alberta's short fall, so more pics will be forthcoming.

Beautiful post and pictures of clearly a fun trip! The rod sounds nice. I caught some grayling in Montana years ago, but have not had the opportunity to renew the acquaintance. Glad you did!

Beautiful fish and setting! Grayling are on my list of “need to catch”. My last on was a quarter century ago in AK. I remember holding him in the water and not wanting to let go, he was so fascinating. Measured him on my arm and when I went back to the lodge looked at the catch board and saw that he was the biggest one of the season. Being from the Midwest I had no idea a 18 inch grayling was a trophy fish!
BTW, as soon as the world approaches normal again, we are planning a trip to your gem of a province.

toddw, shoot me a PM if you need any info. I'm not an expert on every corner of the province, but I'd be happy to help out if I can.

Also, I'm heading out for some more grayling tomorrow and maybe a bull or two. The bull trout should be spawning in the tribs right now, so they're not what we'll be actively looking for. Still, if one's just chilling in a deep pool of the main river and nowhere near any beds it might be streamer time.
