On my third outing in SE MN, I caught these three browns:

I recently found out the LL Bean rod I got at a garage sale for $3.00 was built by Bill Franke from a Lamiglas blank which I feel privileged to own and use. It fished well and was a blast to land the three trout pictured above. Thank to this forum I grabbed the rod when I saw it, and had a Martin 67SS to put on it.

Fun all around and my two sons (11 & 13 years old) called it "our" fishing spot after only two times out. Hopefully many more fish and memories to come.

Great. Nice combo. By the way, LL Bean's Angler 1 reel was manufactured by Martin and basically a 67SS but in a handsome battleship gray and with a machined aluminum foot.

I couldn't resist looking into matching my rod & reel, but the prices I saw the Angler 1s going/listed on auction is too steep for me to justify.

They sure look nice though!

Nice! I have the same model rod (cost me a little more than $3). I’ve only lawn cast it - looking forward to taking it up to the Sierra this weekend...

Just keep looking.. paid $30 for mine, with a new Cortland line on it, basically bought a line and got a free reel ;-)

All three of the Angler 1s currently shown on ebay are from one seller in Japan, who is overpricing their goods.

I have both the 67SS and the Angler, among my favorite reels..
