This was a strange year.. Some of the guys wanted to go early. So a date of June 28th was decided on. I adjusted my schedule and got my work finished up just a day before I was to leave. The mad dash yo get everything ready and get the A frame camper all geared up.
I did get everything done and took off for Wyoming at four in the morning. The drive was uneventful as usual and I arrived at the chosen campsite at 4.30 mountain time.. All the guys were already at camp and the rest of the evening I got my site up and running.. I parked so my front door was facing the river.. ooooppps the damn wind was non stop everyday and started at 2 and didn’t let up till dusk.. So I hooked to my camper and swung it around..
For some reason my campsite turned into the gathering site for food and relaxation.. As the Solo Stove bonfire was a huge hit.. And my grill and the disco was fired up for meals..
It rained hard and blew hard the first 3 days..
That event changed the course of the river from then on.. The flows never dropped from 3,000 cfm it’s normally around 1700 to 1200 for ideal dry fly heaven were used to..
We all made do and the fishing was steady but not like former years..
I had my Outcast Commander on its maiden trip and I must say I’m addicted to floating rather then fishing from the drift boat.. Also worked hard on my euro style fishing.. It’s not easy and it’s a huge learning curve.. Lucky for me I have a friend that lives by the euro stick..
The rest of fishing was dry dropper or straight dry fly ..
As usual the size of fish is impressive and rewarding.. Also fighting 20 plus inch fish on euro rods with 6X tippet is a challenge and a lot of fish are not netted.. My rods I used McFarland Hybrid 6wt. Scott Radian 10’4 wt
Thomas and Thomas Contact 10’8” 3wt.. “Euro”
Enough gab..
Here’s some of my favorite pics..

Fueling up for the long journey

This one had a skin pigmentation not very common

The campsite is glowing

This is hefty the ground squirrel. Not shy let me touch him even . Hefty is named after the trash bags he ate when we were floating and the huge mess I cleaned every day because of it..

I took this pic as you don’t see the child as the main focus enough these days ..Just wonderful to see the young man fly fishing

My last fish of the trip..

The sun setting in my rear view mirror as Wyoming is brite with color! Another epic trip..

Thanks for looking guys and gals
Rod

Rodney,

How are you liking that Rockwood? You've had it now for a while, haven't you? Any problems, anything you'd change, anything you particularly like or dislike about it?

And I'm diggin' your Solo Bonfire!! I may have to get me one of those. I like the looks of it, and it makes the whole campfire thing easier to deal with. I can't remember over the last 50 years how many times I've had to get up and move to the other side of a campfire because the freakin' wind changed!

Great story, wonderful pics! Thanks for sharing, buddy!

Thanks for the kind words! The Rockwood is on its second 2 week adventure. I am so proud of myself for getting this particular camper! It is everything I hoped for, the solar system is truly amazing as everyday I looked the full charge light was on. Since the last trip they put the luggage racks on and they were kind enough to put my Hobie Kayak Cradles on the bars..
If you look close at first pic u can see the cradles. I also added a battery so now there’s two batteries linked to make a better 12 volt system..
The solo is again another campers dream. Wood last forever and there’s no smoke.. Clean burn and so easy to light. We put all our paper in it and light at night .. no waiting it’s blazing in minutes.. Don’t get the big one stay with the bonfire.. The big burns a ton of wood and is really heavy..
Thanks again
Rid

Rodney,

The Solo is definitely on my 'to-get' list!!

I think my Wrangler's tow capacity limit is 2000 lb. I do like the looks of that A-frame of yours, though!

Once my father passes, he's 95, I'll sell his house and move to Montana, at which time I intend to trade the Jeep for a 4x4 pickup and also get a 16' Scamp trailer. I guess in the meantime I'll stick to sleeping in tents.

Thanks for the updates and reviews!
