Got in one more day of fishing for big bluegill. 15’ leaders, breakaway indicators, size 14 olive buggers and the NFC 580. This rod handled the long leader well and was a blast to catch the fish on. The air temps at the lake are 100 degrees and the water is very warm and full of algae. The fish will be retreating to deeper water for the next few very hot months. I’ll try again in the fall it was a great run.

Hawgs! Love it. I've got a NFC 7644 arriving on Saturday that I'm really looking forward to putting together.

Those are nice, I like catching those and Texas Cichlids they are like mini Permit sometimes they get big. If you ever have a chance to fish for them they are fun

Forgot to ask, how is the action of that rod? Did those ‘gills give it a good bend? Moderate or maybe fast/moderate?

Panfish, hello I would say the NFC 580 is a moderate fast action leaning more towards the moderate side. Yes those big bluegill put a really good bend in the rod. Heck its really fun on small to medium size bass, panfish and trout. A very enjoyable rod to cast and fish

Thank you. Building mine right now. It’s for trout - at least in the beginning on the Tailwaters but going to see how it performs with Smallies and panfish too.

I could give up trouting for fish like that, nah, but if forced I would feel too bad to be a panfisher for live; I would just need to get some bigger pans.

That's my kind of fishing right there. I always said that if Bluegill went to 10#, I'd fish for nothing else!

I am a huge fan of catching bluegill on the fly. Here’s a big one I had a blast fighting on my Diamondback Meeker 6’6” 2wt at a friend’s ranch pond in west Texas in early December. So much fun.

Nice fish. I've been curious about those rods. What do you think of the action on the 2wt ? What line do you prefer with it ?

Odonata, I love my Meeker 2wt. Highly recommend. I have never had a 2wt before so I bought a reasonably priced line to start out: the Piscifun Sword WF2. Works very well with this rod. I’d say the action is soft but nice and crisp, exactly as they pitch it. I didn’t feel like I could do anything with my meager skills that it couldn’t handle. Curiously, Diamondback’s social media is nearly non-existent, which may be intentional, or may be they don't have or want to commit the resources. I bought the Meeker glass 2wt in part because of this insane video of Tom Bell catching massive carp on it (he switches from the 6wt to the 2 about the 6 minute mark but you’ll want to watch the whole thing. This is what convinced me to cast it for Texas lake bass (of which I caught many along with the bluegill this fun day): https://youtu.be/ZRwy8p1WlVQ
